Safari Youtube videos suddenly choppy

Starting early today any videos played on Youtube or other sites are choppy, instead of a smooth video, jumping to still shots as the audio plays fine. I restarted the computer, emptied cache, it is still happening.

Any suggestions?

This started happening to me after I installed 10.6.8. I'm thinking of reverting to 10.6.7 to see if that gets my system back to normal. Safari has started having trouble taking a long time to load pages, too.
