I want to sell my IPhone XS Max. I really don’t want to sell to a private person. Is there a place to sell that is 100% safe?

I always use eBay and always have a pretty good experience. Just be careful as there are some sketchy buyers out there. You also don't ship until the payment has been received making it fairly safe. A decent priced iPhone on ebay will also sell fairly quickly.

^^yeah, til the buyer lies and says you shipped a brick and ebay/paypal unequivocally side with the buyer and force a refund, at which point you're out the phone and the money.

i wouldnt touch ebay with a 10 foot pole...i cant believe people still use ebay

damn, I guess you've had a bad experience. Sorry to hear that. I've sold two iPhones, and iPod Touch and two iPads without issues.

MacRumors Marketplace? It’s pretty good. Legend says that if you don’t pay, @Weaselboy will find the buyer and remove their kneecaps with a crowbar.

This is just legend, of course. But for seller protection I think you’re covered. That boy is ripped. He once herded a flock of Siamese flesh-ants using only his fists and his transcendent swan song. Man has a voice of an angel.

I highlighted this on my tips thread, but

Swappa - Great place to buy, but selling can be difficult at times because the buyer protection is so strong - fee assessed in selling price
eBay - Significantly less buyer protection and they take the fee after you sell
gazelle - Superior convenience but poor return
Apple - similar to Gazelle but the proceeds go directly to the purchase price of your new device
craigslist - I would steer clear. No buyer or seller protection

i havent, but ive heard of it happening to too many people. there just seem to be too many better avenues to even consider ebay at this point

The upside to craigslist is it can be a face to face experience so you get to see the device and try it out before you hand over cash.

Well I did FB Marketplace and Let Go

FB marketplace seems to attract more of a ‘local crowd’, it also gives you more of a perspective where you can see someone’s profile, kind of who they are, if they seem somewhat legitimate, etc. Now, I don’t sell on Facebook marketplace from my experience, but I know others who have had success and won’t sell anywhere else when it comes to local transactions.

Bingo, I did the same thing I sold mine to a buyer on Offer UP and we met at an apple store.
All the online reselling is always at risk of being defrauded. It doesn’t matter eBay, swappa, a buy can always defraud you. I stopped selling high priced items online after getting defrauded.

I recommend in person, CL or offer up or Facebook marketplace. Meet at a police station. Get the deal done there no worries of getting punched in the face or held up in the lobby. I’ve always taken precautions selling in person and always cash and in public. Again police stations are the best.

How large is your workplace? I've always been able to sell my phone to a co-worker or relative of a co-worker. I just put the word out that I have a phone to sell and it usually doesn't take long for someone to take me up on the offer.

I usually give them a deal that is better than what they'd get on Ebay or something for the same model in similar condition to make it a quick sale. They get a phone that they know is legit for a decent price and I don't have to deal with sketchy online buyers.

I work from home

Sell it on Craigslist and meet inside an Apple retail store. They can check out your phone, it's crowded with people. Etc.
Good idea.
I usually meet inside my bank in the lobby. Plenty of security cameras around and you can deposit the cash right there and then. Also, I always take a pic of the buyer with another phone. I have sold plenty this way and had no problems. No fees, cash only, security.

Some people make really really poor decisions selling in person. Like meeting in a secluded area or falling for Nigerian scam (I’m gonna pay $200 more to your for a used phone when I can buy one for much cheaper but you have to ship it my my nephew).

Why do people keep asking to text them instead chatting on Let Go? Scam??

It could be due to a multitude of reasons, maybe they’re at work or where they’re not able to accept a phone call. But as a legitimate buyer, they _should_ be able to communicate either way via text or voice call at some point throughout the day. And if you’re not sure, you can go ahead and call them anyway, to see if it’s even a ‘real’ person‘s phone number. If Someone provides me their phone number for a transaction, I wouldn’t hesitate to call them, otherwise I will just move onto the next potential buyer.
