Hello all,

I'm running Folding@Home and my CPU is at a constant 88-90 degrees celsius. Is this a safe operating temperature? Thanks :)

It's on a regular wood desk. Flat, but I'm not sure I'd say it's "cool."

I'll look into a cooling unit...any recommendations for a Macbook?

Is that how hot it runs all the time? Even when doing simple stuff like surfing the web and checking email?

Mine will run that hot, but only when doing cpu intensive stuff like video encoding. Otherwise it runs much cooler like 35-45 with the fan running at it's lowest speed.

It only runs that hot when I run Folding@Home (which is essentially all the time). When just running my usual set of apps (adium, safari, mail, etc.), I've never heard the fans and it rests at about 50 degrees celsius.

Then there's no problem with it, hardware wise

If the CPU is constantly doing a heavy load (which I assume happens with that app) then the temp is going to constantly be high

If the CPU isn't doing a heavy load, then the temps will be low

I think it might be a bit dangerous if it's running at that temp for long periods of time.

Sorry to hijack, but what's a same temperature for the Nvidia 330m GT GPU? I'm running some stuff in bootcamp and it gets pretty hot, so I'm just curious.
