banks usually don't try to infect clients with viruses. I'm guessing very few does that. :p:p Porn sites and other shady sites? sure, I'd think so, but banks?

You should be ok.

If this is about my post specifically -- that post is less about "banking" specifically and more about the overall state of using Mac OS X 10.7.5 or older on the Internet.

Also here in Sweden we have signature codes which are generated by a tiny external device.(like a calculator) So you can't do anything banking wise without that generator. My wells fargo US account isn't like that though... safety depends on the country/bank.

I personally don't care what device I use...

Those key code fobs are pretty neat, as well as the SmartCard. Is the card your actual bank card (for a chip and pin arrangement) or just a token/factor for logging into a terminal or ATM?

WF is starting to add chips to their credit cards, but nowhere in the US is using chip+pin yet, so it'd mainly be useful if you were to travel. It seems like in the US we're headed away from swiping and toward contactless payments.

I prefer stock Safari, TFF is very slow on my 1.25ghz PowerBook G4

I would recommend at least using Safari WebKit (there's both a Leopard and Tiger version) because it's continually updated by the community. Erik may bash it, but it's hard to deny that it's better than stock Safari :p

As far as I know, the Tiger version hasn't been updated in a while and won't be getting further updates. It's still better than stock Safari, but nowhere near as secure as more recently updated browsers.

If you are running Tiger, it's best to stick to TFF.

Good to know!

Bash no. Dislike yes. I have a few reasons why and they've been expounded on here a few times. But those are my reasons only.

It works for other people and if it's working for you, that's all that matters.

:D

Yes, I guess it was :) No probs!

Those fobs are for different banks but they all work only for online banking. Highly secure but adds a bit more work. The card we use has a Chip and it's the same that you use to pay with or with ATM (VISA or Master Card credit/debit card).

Yeah, in the UK the stores didn't have swiping abilities, so be sure to have credit/debit card with chip if you go to Europe.

I applied for an Amazon.com credit card the other day(it came with $50 free in Amazon cash :) ) and was pleasantly surprised to see that when it arrived it had a chip in it.

I also applied for a Discover card a few weeks back($50 free for me, and $50 for the person who sent me the application) and it was NOT chipped.

Most machines in the UK actually do allow swiping. It is just seen as a last resort if the chip reader is playing up. You will still need to enter a PIN if you swipe.

MrPilot's info is still valid, as cards without chips would not have the necessary pin number.
