So I've been affected by speaker crackling/distortion in certain tones/apps/music on my new 6s and have been doing my research online before booking a Genius Bar appointment or calling Apple. Some have claimed an update to the latest version of 9.2 Beta has fixed this for them. I've never downloaded a beta version of iOS before and it clearly states on the Apple site that it shouldn't be installed on a primary device, which my 6s certainly is. Can I go ahead and be confident I won't destroy my phone by trying this option out before taking the next step?

Yes. I'm running the beta and it's slightly better than 9.1.

Betas work differently on different devices, even if they are the same model. When I was testing the iOS 9 beta, I had varying experiences, from silky smooth performance to device overheating to extremely short battery life. It could be quite frustrating at times.

You won't destroy your phone, because at worst, you can just roll back to the previous version and restore your phone from there. It can however result in a lot frustration and inconvenience if your device malfunctions. Personally, I don't recommend it.

The safest option is still not to tinker with any beta software. The next update should be soon, within these few weeks, so no point risking a bad user experience for what is a very short term benefit at most.

I was getting some lag on things like Facebook before updating to the beta and now that's been resolved. It seems to be a much smoother experience so far. Battery life is still fine and there's no overheating issues. I'm enjoying it.
