just bought a new mid 2010 macbook pro mc374ll/a came equipped with snow leopard 10.6 after checking for update it says new update 10.6.4 available to download. Is it save to update or are there problems with this update that I should stay clear from ?

It's safe enough, plus there are security updates included as well.

It would be more risky NOT to update; as r.j.s said, you'll also be downloading security updates and enhancements as well. The most secure computer is an up-to-date computer.

Congrats on the new Mac purchase. :)
