Safely jailbreaking iPhone 3GS

Hi,

What is the safest and most convenient (i.e. can turn phone off without having to re-jailbreak) way of jailbreaking an iPhone 3GS running 4.0.2 firmware?

Wait for JB for 4.1 or downgrade if you can. 4.0.2 is meant to patch the JB from 4.0-4.0.1, so its not JB-able currently.
