Target has a lot bigger problems than the #1 Customer satisfying Company ever. They should take another look at their store policies and how they effect family based customers. I for one and most of the people I know want step a foot in their store. Oh and their CEO is an Idiot.

Perhaps, but when you carry a product form a company that suddenly falls by double digits, its time for Target to call apple out on its product line that seemingly lacks innovation.

most of the comments here are rather dim. let me set your hater skewed nonsense straight:

1) Target doesn't sell macs, only iOS devices and those are updated annually.

2) Target customers don't know or care about Intel chipsets, even if target did sell macs.

3) techies don't shop at target.

4) people don't need new iDevices every year.

Yep...

iOS/TVoS devices: iPad, iPod, iPad Accessories, iPod Accessories, iPhone Accessories. Apple TV

Stop playing the name changing game mister CEO. A person that buys products from you is a 'customer' not a 'guest.' A person that works for a billion dollar company is an 'employee'. They are not a 'team member' or 'associate.'

Just since a person has money does not mean they need to buy stuff that will either wind-up in a landfill or shipped to india to be melted down with hand torches for basic elements. People are finally starting to realize these facts and are buying less stuff and keeping what they buy for longer periods of time. Apple seems to have a built in a 'designed obsolescence' into their business practices, by creating OS and iOS upgrades that hardware replacements to enjoy those new features. However, customers have learned that they don't need to install the latest and greatest OS and iOS so they are getting longer life out of the products.

I know a number of people that are still using iPhone 4s that they have taken care of and getting lots of use from. They take photos, videos, and are able to read email and surf the internet and are just as happy with the products as those that burn through their money buying the newest toys.

Saving money is not a crime.

As a former Apple super-fan it is not hard to understand the lack of sales. Since Apple effectively exited the computer business they have offered little for me to buy. Wrist watches, ghetto headphones and Apple Pay do nothing for me. My iPhone 6 will be sufficient for the next few years. My six-core Mac Pro, quad MacBook Pro and quad mini will last for quite a while. They are all 2012 models whose performance is still plenty fast.

After purchasing two MBPs, two Mac Pros and four minis in about six years I'm just about done with Apple. I am only one consumer but there may be others who feel the same way about Tim's Apple.

Another one here, sad to say. I have loved Apple for years. I really wish they would put more work into their Mac lineup, which was always what kept me loyal all these years. I had a 2011 iMac which was nice and would have been plenty fast for a few more years, but the video card died. I wasn't going to spend $600 to fix it. That left me with in a bind, and when I looked at their current lineup and how long they have been neglecting their models, I decided not to buy another Mac. It was a sad day indeed. Hopefully in a few years they get their act together and I may come back.

I've been a long time mac and iPhone user, but I'll be honest, Apple isn't doing it for me anymore. Dropping the headphone jack, adding curved glass, these are gimmicks not improvements.
The same is true in their line of laptops. Their ever increasing desire to go thin is costing us valuable ports and performance. Soldering in ram and batteries and where is the sub $2000 laptop with a dedicated GPU?

Apple was been focusing too much on being a fashion company rather than building us tools we need.
Since the return of Jobs they've always had a fashion flare that was nice, but usually maintained a function first perspective and I'm not getting that impression anymore.

Careful with where you say you shop. They may not let you in an apple store. You are not their demographic! Walmart - yikes!

Haha, true.

If Apple knew I only go to their stores to check what's doing, they'd probably wouldn't let me in.

Only when there is no discount to be found or I need that hard to find dongle do I "shop" in an Apple store
(Say ATV4 max GB ) Once a year I'll pay their premiums.

Not that anybody is in the same boat, however coming from just paying for everything with credit cards, figuring to pay later, I am now the ultimate non consumer, not using cc any more.

It helps to have the kids out of the house, actually not having a house and lowering wants to important stuff.

Again, comes with age.

Same here and sad to see, especially the permanent port reduction. (Compensated for with OWC dock, which is the best)
iPhone can be used for 4 years, iPad still on 2nd gen, works fine. MBPs 2008 and 2014, will be good until dead (The 2008 one) even then I'll fix which is cheaper.

Boy would I like to be interviewed by Apple on what is not right and learn their counter points.
They may still think differently, but it doesn't show in their products.

During the second quarter of 2016, sales of Apple iPads, iPhones, and other devices fell 20 percent at popular retailer Target. Target CEO Brian Cornell highlighted the sales drop during an earnings call where he suggested the decline was due to a lack of "newness" and "innovation" and blamed poor Apple sales for Target's disappointing Q2 earnings results.

According to Cornell, electronics sales decreased by double digits, with Apple product sales responsible for a third of the overall drop.

In the first calendar quarter of 2016, Apple reported its first year-over-year revenue decline since 2003 and its first ever drop in iPhone sales, sending its stock into a downward spiral. The negative trend continued into the second quarter with another year-over-year revenue drop, and based on Apple's forecast for the third quarter of 2016, a third consecutive decline in revenue is expected.

Apple expects to see revenue of $45.5 billion to $47.5 billion in the third calendar quarter of 2016, up to 12 percent lower than the $51.5 billion in revenue it saw in the third calendar quarter of 2015.

Device sales could turn around for Apple following the upcoming release of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but as rumors suggest the changes being introduced in the two new devices are moderate, Apple's downward trend could potentially continue into 2017. Apple does, however, have some impressive products on the horizon, including the 2017 iPhone, which has caused stock to rise more than 20 percent over the course of the last three months.

The 2017 iPhone will mark the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone and to celebrate, Apple is rumored to be introducing some of its most significant iPhone changes ever like a dual curved edge-to-edge OLED display with a built-in Touch ID sensor, wireless charging, a glass body, and more.

[doublepost=1471536018][/doublepost]Surely it couldn't possibly have anything to do with Target's overall sales being down this year, could it? Since they decided to let men in the women's restrooms and fitting rooms, and women in the mens? That has definitely affected my family's shopping habits. I used to be a Target regular.

I live in a very socially liberal area actually, but there were articles I have read stating this had cost them business. But I have not looked in a while, and this might have changed. But keep in mind that even a socially liberal area may have 20% conservative, so becoming political in those areas can still have an impact on sales. It is always good for companies to stay way from political issues as it can only cause issues no matter which side of the paradigm you fall on.
That is what happens when you get into the political side of things.

Exactly. ^

I'm shocked shocked that Apple's sales of outdated hardware are down!

Now Apple execs will use the sluggish sales as an excuse to drop Mac lines since "they don't sell well anymore". Maybe they'll be right. I'm at the point where I just want Apple to discontinue all Mac sales and license OS X to a company in the business of building and selling desktops and laptops. I'd prefer Dell but it doesn't matter so long as the company offer hardware with the latest silicon from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia.

********, every time I've tried to buy a damn iPhone there, they don't have any in stock. @#$%^

Is there something about over $20 billion in annual revenue with a ~35% net profit that you find funny? That's the Mac.
Lol nice putting revenue number instead of profit. A profit of rough 7 billion compared to 50 billion is not "very profitable". Not to mention quite a few sales of macs is influenced by the integration of the iPhone and macs.

Say you become CEO tomorrow. What new categories will you introduce??
That's Tim's job to find someone who will do this.

As I've said before, I'll bet there are at least a half-dozen people already working at Apple who can do this. He just needs to find who they are and empower them. All the power is with the old guard, who are conservatively cruising into retirement. They never had to be innovative, because their leader was. This means that they are mostly followers, who merely sprinkle in their own ideas of refinement.

Combined with Tim, I'm afraid Apple's being led by a team of followers (as far as innovation's concerned)!! Doesn't it show?

These people have too much on the line; they're not going to give up their positions. I don't know much about corporate politics, but I suppose what needs to happen is the board needs to fire almost everyone at the top. Not because they're incompetent - just because they're the wrong team at this stage in Apple's corporate life. They may not even be stubborn. I think they're incapable of behaving differently at this point in their careers - unless perhaps they're all bumped down to about $100K a year plus some very carefully designed bonus incentives that measure innovation and solid 5-year plans rather than quarterly profits. Any one who really cares would go for this and even embrace this (Steve would, according to his own philosophy) - the rest will just retire!

Read the summary again. It says Apple products sold at Target fell 20%. It doesn't say Target sales are down 20%
If you check Target's financial news, they had a 1.1% decline in sales and 2.2% decline in transactions last quarter while Wal-Mart's increased. So their financials are down and it would seem he is trying to blame Apple although it seems to me more a Target problem.

No, Target said electronics in general were 0.7% of the 1.1% decline. Apple was 1/3 of that 0.7%. Which just indicates that Apple is not the largest percentage of electronics sales at Target.

We are saying the same thing but you aren't following the math. One third of 0.7% is about 0.23. 0.23 is about one fifth of 1.1. Their entire decline isn't attributable to Apple products but one fifth is a significant enough portion to warrant mention in a quarterly call.
