No, Apple was ~20% of that 1.1% decline or just over one fifth of the decline. That is worth noting in an earnings call. It is a meaningful, quantifiable drop attributed to a single SKU or small group of SKUs. I have no problem with Target highlighting it.
No, Target said electronics in general were 0.7% of the 1.1% decline. Apple was 1/3 of that 0.7%. Which just indicates that Apple is not the largest percentage of electronics sales at Target.

Best thing I can say here.. go look at one of the latest Samsung devices or one from the last year or so.. They are extremely bright, take less power and have a smaller bezel. Personally I would love to keep my iPhone screen at full brightness all day long but it just can't make it. Until Apple puts OLED screens into their devices, my 6s+ will have to last me.
Or even just take a look st the Apple Watch. It's amoled. Performs very well in direct sunlight. And frankly I've not seen one person argue that Apple should have chosen to go LCD instead.

Has anyone SEEN Target's display of Apple products? It's behind lock & key along with their accessories being very poor selection. Alas, it's also Apple's fault for all-the-things doing poorly.

It's because Target always has awful selection and stock. Most Targets in my area (DC) have one small cabinet with a glass door that houses a couple iPads and maybe a couple Apple watches. Sometimes an iPod touch. I was browsing last week and would've purchased a red 42mm band but all they had were 20 black sport bands. Why even consider Target when there are 3 Apple Stores in my area?

I buy all my Apple stuff at Target when I can. It's the best way to get discounts on Apple products. Their cartwheel gives 5-20% off Apple products, their credit or debit card gives a 5% discount, and sometimes there are $100-$200 off sales.

For example, at Chrismas, an iPad Air 2 64GB was $599, Target had it on sale for $200 off for $399. And using their 5% debit card discount, and a 5% cartwheel, I got two for only $319 each. (All the discounts stack on top of each other). A $280 discount.

Target currently has iPad Air 2s on sale for $200 off right now, so the same discount without the cartwheel of $240 can be had. Maybe cartwheel also has a sale now, I don't know.

Because Best Buy has better deals on most of the Apple products. Target hasn't been discounting Apple products much recently.

They're $200 off right now, and Target had deeper discounts last holidays than Best Buy did. The past year, I've always seen Apple products discounted.

This is not good for Apple. All these doom and gloom articles and we are weeks away from their biggest event of the year. They need all the steam they can get right now.

Step 1: bash Apple products in news articles
Step 2: buy Apple stock at artificially low prices
Step 3: sell after Apple's stock inevitably rises after September announcements

Extra credit: write article after article about iPhone 7 being boring because people are catching on to the pattern and Apple's stock isn't dropping enough to fund your Boca Raton vacation after the rise.

Excellent point. My local Target has hardly any Apple displays and everything is secured by a locked glass display. It's like you need a security guard to even see the product your purchasing. Secondly, all they have on display is some outdated iPad Mini's. (Really Target? Mini's?)

How is the customer confidently to purchase an expensive Apple product without being able to go hands on with it? Same goes for a lot of their high end electronics. At least have some updated hardware for the customer to interact with, that is if you want their business. Or should I resort to Best Buy and Staples where they have it right.

Ipads- the mini is using almost 2014 tech. Same for the air 2. Mini 2 is still sold and using tech thats 3 years old. A9x ipads are more expensive and lack 3d touch which is silly.

The macbooks havent been updated in a while, oh and the mac pro commands a huge price for 2013 tech

I dont blame people. I really want a mini but would like some up to date specs for the money i would fork out. Same with a macbook.

This!
I work as a part time merchandiser for another company and am in Target stores every week.

As a consumer, I do my best to avoid the store. Their 'Team Members' that stock the shelves literally throw the stuff at the shelves. There is minimal product rotation for the majority of their grocery section.

From a vendor perspective, their ability to keep stock levels up is very poor. If you don't have it, you can't sell it. Their electronics section is poorly maintained and minimally staffed. i think if you were to look at the department overall, there is at least 20% of out of stock items. The amount of Apple SKU's is a very low percentage of their overall department. If I were to buy an :apple:Watch, I sure wouldn't be buying it at Target.(yes, I own one) They are not a destination store for electronics, but mostly impulse when Mom or Dad need some pants or shoes and they just happen to walk by the electronic department and go, 'Oh, by the way...'

Although, us, on this forum, are painfully aware of the shortcomings of Apple updates, but for this CEO to blame Apple for their loss in sales, I believe, is unfounded.

I like Target a whole hell of a lot more than I'll ever even consider ever stepping in a Walmart. I like their clearance racks. I got two seasons of Star Trek Next Generation at over 45% off. Amazing. I like Target. I have bought a few Apple products there, usually when they are on sale, or clearance. I bought a Classic, and got a $50.00 gift card. NICE...

But, yeah, some things suck about Target. I deal...

yeah, Apple is whats wrong here, not the piss-poor tech-department customer service/lack of tech knowledge at Target

Apple without Jobs will never be the same

For what it's worth, Tim has done a pretty good job. A hell of lot better than John Sculley, who basically ruined the company in ten years, but the company is lacking vision and the big picture think that Steve had. Some details are really important, to make the overall strategy work. Some examples, but there is more.

- Too many different IPhone and IPad models creates confusion and reduces hype
- Too much dividends will in the long term reduce stock price and hype for the company
- Too many product categories, languages/versions steal times from engineers to innovate.

Tim is doing what is expected, but where is the extra? The things that nobody thought would work, but that Steve had thought out really well, like the Apple Store.

Compare 2005-2010 with 2011-2016 and it's obvious less is happening. In the end it will cut back on sales and profits. Perhaps Tim should watch the movie Whiplash, people need to be pushed to create the extraordinary.

Best so far with Tim is his strong stance on privacy issues. One reason why I support Apple and buy their products.

Suppose this explains why iPads were on sale at Target last week, and possibly why they finally caved to selling Amazon products again.

If Apple's sales aren't down 20%, then maybe the problem isn't Apple...

Maybe people just don't want to buy Apple things at Target when the sales staff isn't really knowledgeable about the products and many can order online or, if they really need product help when buying, can just go to an Apple Store?

There are two Target stores in this area. Neither has staff available to remove product from the locked case. Breaking the glass is frowned upon. Best Buy is located close to both. one is only one highway exit from Apple store.

I would never consider buying Apple from Target or Walmart. Not gonna start on Walmart. UGH!

Even when they start selling the Magic Apple Ring? :D

This makes perfect sense! People are buying fewer iPods and more iPhones, and most people aren't going to Target to buy an iPhone. And the iPod classic was discontinued, which contributes to it.

My local Target stores stopped carrying Apple's first-party Lightning cables, chargers, adapters, etc. Maybe that contributes to a 20% loss of sales.

Apple's detractors have managed to create such a negative mindset that is going to make the iPhone 7 a "failure" even before it is released. Apple's challenge is to reverse this mindset. So far it appears that Apple may not succeed, I really hope that Apple will surprise us with some features on its smartphone that will us rush out in droves to get it.

No worries. Apple doesn't pay attention to the dozen or two people here who are either still in high school, or have serious issues where they're only able to feel good about themselves and life by tearing down others.

With respect to Target... The couple times I've been to one in the last year their Apple products were in disarray. Not shocked people aren't buying Apple goods there.

There is just one word to describe Apple's current lineup: weak.

iPhone: 1-2 years behind, will have a similar design for 3 straight generations
iPad: nothing new here, except the ridiculously overpriced iPad Pros, that don't offer enough in terms of professionalism or productivity
MacBook: underpowered, still just 1 USB-C port, too pricy
MacBook Air: maybe the best MacBook, if it wasn't for that ancient screen technology
MacBook Pro: 15" still stuck with Haswell CPUs in 2016
Apple Watch: a first gen product that's approaching the end of its life cycle
iMac: Spinning hard drives in 2016, in machines with a 5k screen. Makes sense..
Mac mini: worse than the previous generation

I could not buy any of these Apple products with a clear conscience.
They should be happy that there's only a 20% sales drop at one retailer for now.

I had several reasons for not liking Target. Then, they refused to accept Apple Pay. Even after a YUUGE data breach. Adding another reason. I don't understand why some companies will be so stubborn about something so small. Small, for a company the size of Target. Customers get used to frequenting another business. Then, when the company realizes it's hurting them, they do an about-face. Too little, too late.
