SE3 is still the same 5s design which was 8 years ago

Some devices like air 2 still getting latest IOS upgrade after 8 years

So total at least 16 years for 5s design

Same Apple design can be used forever

None of these is 16:9 like SE3
The iPhone SE design isn’t going away anytime soon.

A lot of people prefer the old school design with a home button & Touch ID.

People out there who don’t want to spend 1k plus on a flagship device.

Doubt we’ll see a larger SE, it’ll eat into apple flagship iPhone sales, Tim  won’t allow that.

These flagship iPhones are Timmy boy cash cow.

I don’t get the question… yes, if you use an iPhone SE3 for a further 9 years, the design (iPhone 6) will be 16 years old. I don’t know anyone who uses one iPhone for close to a decade though.

I reckon they this may be the last SE with that design. Apple will likely use the 11 chassis going forward.

I’m a little confused by this thread and how you came up with the 16 years old design thing.

If we’re comparing the SE2 and SE3 then it is using a refinement of a 7.5 year old design, but it’s actual design is from 2017 (iPhone 8). However the iPhone 8 was just the best possible design of the design that was announced in September 2014. Therefore, in September 2022 the iPhone SE2/3 design will be a refinement of a 8 year old design.

The iPhone 5s was released in 2013 which makes it 8.5 years old right now which is what the SE1 was based off from.

I guess the jist of it is that the design is old and tired, but the people who buy the iPhone SE series don’t care about the design. I used the SE1 and SE 2 for a bit after each of them launched. Using the SE1 at the time wasn’t such a huge deal because at the time I had the iPhone 6s (non plus). However, when I tried to use the SE 2 I was using iPhone 11 and going back to the home button and smaller screen took getting used to.

Yeah I honestly feel like the next SE that’s released either in 2023 or 2024 will have a design similar to either iPhone XR/11 or the mini series. I do somewhat wonder though if Apple will not give it FaceID and implement TouchID into the power button?

The current iPhone 12 design will likely be used by flagships up until 2025 with minor changes to the rear camera module and forehead along the way. We should hopefully see Touch ID implemented into the screen too which is a technology that’s been around for many years now.

I think the SE crowd are mainly invested in that phone for the lower price and Touch ID so I would be disappointed if they didn’t add that to the XR/11 chassis. By 2024 the standards will be quite high so I’ll be expecting MagSafe compatibility, LCD screen with Touch ID and a much smaller forehead if FaceID is removed. The price should also be at the same purchasing power as today’s SE3’s $430 (obviously it’ll be numerically higher due to uncontrollable inflation).

I guess one could argue the SE3 is an evolution/refinement of the same iconic design (top+bottom bezel with home button) from the original iPhone in 2007? Still not quite 16 years old though.

Mind, I've used iPhones since OG and I like the familiarity of the home button.

I think that the OP is saying that for the SE’s support cycle, at its end-of-life it’ll have been used for more or less 16 years.

Of course, it looks like he’s still very confused about the difference between the 5S and the 6, and the SE1 and SE3

My son is mainly part of the SE crowd by default. We got him the SE1 in 2017 for his birthday and considering that it replaced an 8GB 4s he was very happy. Last year, we upgraded to the 11Pro Max and a month later got him the SE2. And again he was very happy (although, like me keeping my old phones, he ket his SE1).

At some point, we will upgrade again, and if he is still at home on our plan we'll probably get him the SE3. Otherwise, with his own money, he can get whatever he wants.

We buy the flagships with the most capacity available at the time. But we upgrade slowly and it seems now to the previous flagship model - depending on price. We have a rule though and that is that our kids don't get better phones than the ones we have (unless they use their own money for it).

Hence, my son has been part of the SE crowd by default.

Or just outright prefer the older design. I'm an Android user, but the bezeled design, "physical" home button, and smaller size (due to my tiny hands actually hurting trying to pull down on the menu bar) make it very appealing to me. I won't get one, I've already decided to go to an LG V20 when I can (which is still objectively an upgrade from my 2021 Moto G Play given its higher processor count and speed, more RAM, upgradeable battery, and better headphone jack), but someone who doesn't care about running something like /e/ but still wants those things would appreciate the current SE.

No.
And no.
If predicting the future would be so easy, why don’t you replace Kuo? Your „logic“ is flawed.

Base on your logic, Apple may not even exist tomorrow
What? My logic is that not everyone is an analyst. Obviously. Just like you.
If you were, Apple wouldn’t exist tomorrow, as analysts can affect stock prices. If people would listen to you APPL would be tanked 5 minutes into Tuesday.
