Had my 6S+ replaced (Samsung) and the new handset is so much better battery wise. I didn't think to check until a mate asked me yesterday which chip I had - sure enough it's a TSMC. I was having to charge the Samsung by 7pm, the TSMC lasts until bed.. There is a noticeable difference.

Is the battery gauge that accurate?
Not if you believe the many posts with people seeing the % holding at a number for too long/dropping precipitously fast unrelatable to actual use.
With the way the battery % meter has been jumping around,

I wouldn't trust any test that doesn't take the device to zero/shut off.

I went to the Apple Store and made it quite clear that I wasn't happy with the battery life in my then 1.75 y/o phone. The "genius" ran some tests, told me the battery was fine and then instructed me to turn off features in an effort to extend its life.

Does this strike you as good service? I would've been more than happy to buy a new battery had it been offered but was left unaware that it was even an option. My feeling is that Apple doesn't publicise this, preferring instead to "encourage" people to buy new phones when the battery is no longer up to scratch.

Now I know I'll go and get a new battery for my 2-year old 5s, that should give it a bit of a fresh lease on life. Thanks for the tip.

Oh I see. Yeah -- that sucks. They should have let you know. Just say you want a new battery and you don't care what their test results show.

So last night I downloaded lirum and found out I have the TSMC version. Today at work i'm trying to download the app again on my friends device and it was pulled. I wonder why apple. This confirms to me that apple is worried about this and knows it has a big problem

The developer pulled the app and this confirms to you that Apple is worried?

Just checked my iPhone and it has a Samsung chip. Sure people with tmsc chips might have better battery life but remember this, my Samsung chip is a sexy modern small 14mm while your tmsc is a fat obese 16!. So while you're enjoying your extra battery life, remember it's being powered by a fat bloated chip that doesn't fit with our time while my Samsung is powered by a curvy slim chip hahahaha. Bet you want that Samsung now, ha?!. Sorry not exchanging!

Found a replacement app for the removed Lirum app.... "Battery Memory System Status Monitor" It is free.

Also yay I have TSMC!

Based on what the videos above show, there is a battery difference and being someone who has had their phone suddenly shut down with my phone's "remaining" estimate as high at 8%, the difference between the two makes a difference.

It was on YouTube?! Using that NIST calibrated battery gauge and everything? Now I totally believe it. Those guys are geniuses...

Is there a difference? Probably. Are we able to quantify it? Not yet.

can't you just wait? wasn't samsung brought on board to just help with demand and then drop off?

Guys, don't immediately say this is clickbait!

Remember the issue with the 2012 Macbook Air - there were screen displays made by 2 different companies and trust me, it was the difference between night and day!

The OCD and knowledgeable types will check their new 6s's - if it bothers you, you're still within 2 weeks - return and replace!
But ….but…but. Apple could never ship a sub standard product.
Of course they could.
Companies bigger than Apple do it all the time and they also cheat. Whether they did in this instance remains to be seen but I’m staggered how people think it’s impossible for Apple to do something that’s not completely on the level.
