Not very fast at all for the price. I built a portable 2TB NVMe drive with a similar sized enclosure for around $200. I didn't even bother spending the money on the 40Gbps enclosure because of heat issues. Even with my cheap 10Gbps $25 enclosure I get 900MBps... so I'm shocked they are boasting 460MBps. Not impressive at all. For the price I'd expect something north of 1500MBps or more.

Are these true T5s which are now unobtainium for any production companies that need them? I know my camera doesn’t play nice with the T7 (something about sustained writes) so if this works as well as the old ones, I’ll probably pick one up.

Pretty pricey for the 2TB version considering the t7 shield could do 1gb sustained writes and has been <$150 a bunch of times - even in Canada
Yup, 4TB T9 is going for $250 or $200 via EPP (at least it was yesterday).

Links don't appear to be right (ifixit right to repair article???) but it's dazzling that 8TB can be jammed into a 1.57 x 3.74 x .67 inches EXTERNAL case. Wow!

As a point of reference, the original iPod with its whopping 5GB of storage measured 4.02 x 2.43 x 0.78 inches. I had one of those and couldn't believe so much music could be stored in so little space.
Still have mine!

I don’t understand why anyone would sell or buy such a slow SSD? I can buy an 8tb NVME and slap it in a thunderbolt case for less and get 3000mb/s 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pass.

The SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro (with updated firmware) is USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 for 2000MB/sec performance for $250 new. I have four of them spanned for a 16TB SSD for a Plex server. No Thunderbolt ports or cables needed.

And why the Mac doesn’t do USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 speeds in 2023 is beyond me.

8TB of SSD storage on an Apple, is more than 16TB of SSD storage on a Windows machine.
Since when? 8TB of storage is the same, no matter what hardware or OS you are running. Throw in the Apple Tax and you soon see the additional markup to boost those FY spreadsheets from Apple.

Take a big breath, go for a walk, or have a nap. Then read my comment again, slowly, and then consider if you want to stick with your reply as is.

I'd love to know how you do this, sounds an interesting idea. Please explain a bit.

Looks like a good SSD but with much lower speeds than T9 or even the T7. Should have been available in 1 TB variant also.

It's QLC and overpriced:

Yeah, the specs seem no better than the 870 QVO, but the price is much higher. It seems the only advantage is that it already comes with a case and that it will be smaller.

I want one with two 8TB drives in it in hardware RAID 1 for backup. Then I want that to by my new archival volume that I can also bring with me on the go. I really need to figure out a good backup solution soon that is fast, relatively portable, and doesn't break the bank. Will be scouring the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales.
