when the technology reaches that milestone, apple will push the price similar to 15" MacBook Pro :)

When technology reaches that milestone, there will not be a MacBook Pro.

Its not a matter of if but when that personal computers as we know them are completely replaced by our phones. There will be work stations that consist of keyboard, screen, and mouse that you plug your phone into when you need more real estate. at some point even that will be wireless.

I dont think we are too far away from this future. five years?

First the transition of Mac OS to the A series of chips. Already in progress. If that occurs, what will be the difference between our phones and our computers? Memory, input, output. Oh and IOS that everyone hates due to lack of file systems. Oh wait. Mac OS runs on the same chip.

This is Apple's roadmap, and the reason I think its sooner than later is because of all the complaints people have on why today is not better, better IOS, better laptops, why isn't apple devoting more resources to that?

Because they know those things are already obsolete.

p.s. I am not a fan of Samsung the company, but do like this bit of tech.

Most Android phones include a microSD slot that lets owners upgrade the internal capacity of their device...

MOST?

I don't know about that...

Also, in the 10+ years Android has supported SD card, it's still a CRAP system. You cannot move apps to SD unless the developer specifically adds support for external storage. You can modify the APK to allow moving to external storage, but then you lose Google Play updates for it. You can also root to force an app to external storage, but then that has its own issues to deal with. Plus, may apps won't even work if moved to external storage, and lots of apps lose some abilities if moved to external storage.

Even though Android 6.0 added adoptable storage to replace the internal /sdcard, some OEMs (like Samsung) actually patched that OUT and removed it on some of their devices (the SM-G900 line of Galaxy S5 doesn't have it, for example).

Basically, it's really easy to have a device with full storage (and there are still Android devices sold with fewer than 16GB internal storage) and have a 99% empty SD card because you can't move anything to it.

My photos are in the cloud. My music is in the cloud. My apps? Those are local.

Typically Apple charges somewhere in the range of $150 to make the jump from the base model 64gb to 128gb. So at that rate Tim Cook must be planning $10,000 iPhones with 1TB of storage

It offers so much more -- that's why we had to charge a premium for it

They pretty much already did that in 2018

It's crazy how iPhones need to use third party components.
Samsung Inside. ;)

you must be new to the tech sector

Nope, considering how Apple apologists criticize Samsung so much, they sure love to use their tech. ;)

Once again, Samsung showing real innovation, and once again, it benefits the whole industry. Gotta give full credit to this company, the one true OEM. Nobody else in the industry can say the same. Other companies innovate to benefit themselves, Samsung innovates to move the whole industry forward. Respect.

Does anyone know how these increasing storage sizes might effect battery life? It seems cliché, but there are always trade-offs.

It may be even simpler than plugging your phone. Imagine how much there is of an iPhone without the screen or battery. That arrangement of components could become the Mac Nano, a dongle that plugs directly into a monitor or TV and connects wirelessly to keyboard and mouse.

Can see it now - 'We listened to what you were saying on pricing, so here's our new iPhone XI lineup':
iPhone XI 16GB - $899
iPhone XI 1TB - $1,899 (comes with 6GB RAM for the OCD among you)

Certainly within the realm of possibility. But I am on a carry less kick. My iPhone cover is my wallet for example. Love not having to look for two things in the morning, just one. So why not put a screen on that dongle thing so you can review things remotely, and while you are at it, make it so it can communicate, and voila.. replace your phone LOL. I am firmly convinced this is where Apple is headed and I will be able to buy one in 5 years.

I have 1 TB in my Note 9 512 GB with 512 GB card (100 MBs Read/ Write) by Samsung for $75(for Note 9 buyers alone as promotion) and btw bought Note 9 512 for $950

I take it the naughty movies are on the card for easy removal?

A terabyte. On a smartphone. Embedded. That's crazy.
Embedded is the key word in that quote. A single terabyte chip embedded in a smartphone is crazy. Plus the 1TB chip has 10X the speed of the 512GB SD card.
I'm familiar with Samsung's offerings since both my wife and I use their phones. My kids use iPhones. We aren't an ecosystem dependent family. Cheers.

Without sounding like ‘640K ought to be enough for anyone.’

I honest don’t see how anyone can need 1TB on a phone...

I have no need to a terabyte phone. I always get the least amount of storage available. I don't need local storage for 99% of the things I use.

I wish Timmy would see the potency and shared the same excitement like you. I think his calculator is working overtime to see the potential in $$$ instead :(

Unlike you "Timmy" knows a business needs $$$$ to exist and create any product at all. Maybe you can start a non profit computer and phone business.

surely this will back up to a free tier iCloud account...
[doublepost=1548901401][/doublepost]i think this is just showing off. no real use case for 1TB portable phone, esp in case of iphone, which is basically a pretty closed environment. you don't have no versatility how to use it. i can't speak for others, but it was like 2-3 years ago when i last used the cable for data sync. i don't know how much it would take to synchronise this much data. tbh, you can't even back it up on a regular mac due to low disk space on the computer side. now imagine losing 1TB of data as you drop your phone somewhere. let's assume you can have 70MByte/sec throughput over ac2 and mimo, it would take over 4 hours to sync 1TB from the phone over wifi. totally not practical.

I would feel embarrassed if I would run the company like Timmy does.

In other news, in countries where salary is not 100k dollars/euros, users hit the 2nd market sites hard in order to find the MacBook Pro/Air they need, only to find them at 8GB RAM or/and 256GB internal storage (both not upgradeable).

Lossless Audio would do it not bother. I'm not in that camp so 256gb is fine for me (although next time I'll likely go higher).
