I think of years of use - I remember seeing someone with an android they had for years and years and the thing had a permanent "swipe mark" in the plastic from repeated swipes with their finger that you would never see with glass. Interesting bendy display. And the video claims no damage but you never do see the thing operating.

Well in my view with a throwaway screen protector to cope with the scratches and abrasions then I would prefer that to the cracked glass with screen protectors today.

My iPhone X is *covered* in scratches. Horrible! Waaaay worse than my 6 Plus ever was. I can't imagine this Samsung OLED being any worse. And fyi I've treated my X with kid gloves since purchase. Never goes in a pocket, etc. It must be defective.. I don't know. Hopefully the 2018 models will be better because this one is getting traded in!!

I'll accept there are challenges, issues, currently limitations with a plastic screen.
It's still great to see Samsung developing/building these things.

I'd much rather see Apple coming out with many new and exciting ideas and new products, than what's happening right now.

Even if every device was not perfect, it would still be nice to see variety.

Samsung makes so much great hardware that so many other use and benefit from.
The world would be way way behind where we are now without Samsung constantly pushing harder.

Ok, not every product is a winner, but then, that goes for all inventions and developments.

Perhaps, for folding devices, needing to look after the screen more, is a price many would pay for having a totally different type of device.

Probably Apple does not want to use it as it means less repairing/replacement (less profit) for the company.
I'm tired of comments like this. It's stupid to think they would specifically jeopardize a product to make a buck. Apple has proven again and again that it will place users privacy above profits. It'll create devices it deems are closest possible to the form factor and design that fit the features (glass back = wireless charging).
For example, why change their entire supply chain with green energy and processes that use recycled parts. This is costly to the company that earns it no profits.
Right now there isn't a Mac Pro that has been updated in quite some time. They could slap together a metal frame box and sell millions. Why don't they take these easy profits? Because it's in their DNA to not care strictly about the profits and care more about the future of the company. Sure they are a business and that's why they concentrate where they make money but it's stupid to think they would specifically jeopardize a product to make a buck.

Curious how resistant it is to scratches and micro abrasions.
I am interested in seeing test for this too. I have a weather radio and the plastic screen was all scuffed up from contacting with other plastic.

It is not realistic to use a mallet or even a hammer because no one would intentionally do that to their phones. They should be doing testing involving putting the phone inside a pocket, bags, etc and see how resistant it to scratch and scuffing. Show us what it looks like after a year from everyday use.

BTW, it's hard to take this video seriously, especially with the background music they chose.

This is really pretty ridiculous. PLASTIC has never had a problem resisting breakage! That's not new! The problem with plastic is how easily it SCRATCHES!!! That's why everyone uses GLASS!

There is a reason why from the very beginning (LG Prada and original iPhone) cell phones with capacitive screens used glass - it's because plastic is hard to use in capacitive screens. It's not clear from the available information but perhaps Samsung addressed this problem.

The problem with plastic is not only the scratch thing but also the touch feeling is different. I think this is the reason why most phones still use glass. Not only it is more resistant to scratching but also it feels nicer on the touch which is an important factor. Anyone who put on those film protectors will know. :)

Throw a glass screen protector on it. I’d rather deal with the occasional less then a few bucks screen protector replacement than paying Apple hundreds of dollars on cracked yet relatively scratch resistant glass screens. Btw, we had at least 3-4 cracked iPhones over the years where we spent quite a bit to have them fixed. Some of them were even in cases.
