Samsung EVO 850, Trim and Yosemite

Hi guys,

I have just purchased a Samsung EVO 850 SSD and would like to put it in my MBP 2010. Do I really have to enable Trim? I just don't want to use any enablers that will affect security of my system.

I have read a lot about Trim, Garbage Collection and other related topics. Do you know how the Samsung MGX controller performs? Is its Garbage Collection sufficient if you don't have Trim enabled?

Hopefully, I will experince no issues with performance of this SSD and it will function well for years.

No, you don't have to enable TRIM in Yosemite.

Check your manufacturer website as to whether or not you need to enable TRIM on your particular SSD and the benefits of TRIM versus garbage collection.

If you do a forum search for Yosemite and TRIM etc., you will see numerous threads.

The questions you are asking are good questions, albeit they are ones that you should have sought answers to before your purchase, in my opinion.

As I have already stated, I had spent a lot of time doing research on this issue. What I would like to know, is how others use their Samsung EVO SSDs. Are they concerned about TRIM? What do they think about GC?

With less than 2 minutes forum search, I found several threads on the issue of Yosemite, Trim and even one on the EVO 850.
