How do you know when someone overpaid for solid state storage drives?

Oh, they'll tell you.

Why?

Why do people feel the need to brag about the exact brand/model of Samsung drives so much? The only thing that tells me, is you've attributed some kind of 'status' to your choice of...storage drive? Samsung USED to be faster and far more reliable...once, but it's 2023, the competition has caught up. Reliable, abundant and lightning fast storage is now a FRACTION of the cost. The only thing "Samsung EVO" braggarts appear to be proclaiming is how much they like burning money.

Am I alone here?

P.S. If you're a Samsung EVO braggart, I genuinely want to know; What's the deal?

Also...if you're still using these things...

I bought my first Samsung Evo Sata drive for my macpro waaaaay back, and found it extremely reliable/compatible, so have always stuck with the same Evo/Pro drives since.
There definitely are other makes of drive which are also great, I just like what I know....:p

And I in no way 'brag' about it (except to say I paid £350 for 1tb in 2014, which is still my boot drive today).
Considering most people these days have NVMe drives which are vastly faster.

Show me on the Samsung SSD where it failed and took your adult video library with it. 🤣
Lol, Honestly never used one for personal for long. I've come across them in machines and occasionally thought..."well this was free so makes my data safer..." but then promtly filled it up and switched to larger capacity and dumped the Samsung in a flipped machine...of COURSE making sure to mention it's Samsung in the listing...cause MORE MONIES.

If Samsung SSD's are so trash, what do you think about Apple SSD's then?

I never had a single Samsung SSD die on my yet, having a 100% reliabilty record still, so not sure why you say that Samsung SSD's are not reliable at all.

To be fair, I don't think @paul_bace was inferring they are trash, just that there are many cheaper options these days which are as reliable.
Apple used to use Samsung SSD's in Macs.

edit: oops sorry wrong user. Updated.

Apple SSD’s are Samsung, Toshiba, and Sandisk. But mostly Samsung/Toshiba. With Sandisk being most unreliable, and Samsung the most reliable.

That said, I’ve been using ADATA, Kingston, Crucial, and Timetec with equivalent reliability for YEARS now.

Can’t justify spending twice as much for Samsung…and then bragging about it as many people seem to do.

i didn’t know this was a thing lol then again people like to brag their gear in general just buy listing what they have doesn’t mean it’s top tier.

I’d assume that people buy Samsung probably based on the history of their drives when they were peak fast or whatever, or just buy name recognition. I think those more technically inclined would do more research on speeds and reliability for the price or hell even did they’re research and stick with Samsung based on their own experiences.
