Dual cameras aren't an upgrade?

Lol, anyone who thinks the S8/S8+ are the same as Note8, are not worth arguing with.

One major thing the Note8 brought was the extra 2GB RAM that made it an absolute dream to Multitasking.

The SPen and Cameras were also a major step up, the x2 Optical Zoom has seriously come in handy, I hope the Note9 can take that up a notch andake it x3 Optical Zoom.

As for the Pen, well those of us who use it regularly cannot go without it 🙂 I truly regret ever going from my Note 4 to S7 Edge, a year without that pen drive me crazy, was so glad to comeback to the Note series with the Note8. 😀

The Galaxy Note 4 was the LAST true Note phone. It had the IR Blaster, replaceable battery, a real home button, same screen resolution as the note 8, same fast charging as the Note 8, better camera,

The Note 4 was a cool phone but the build quality was average (compared), mine creaked, I had to get the screen replaced due to burn.
It's a good thing the battery was replaceable as they didn't last very long.
My friends still use theirs to this day and the friend I sold my Note 4 to, also still uses it still, but the battery has been replaced a few times.

As for photo quality, the Note 8 is ahead in my opinion.
I've already compared the Note 8 photos to my photos from my Note 7, 5 and 4 and even 3.

That is of course if that's what you meant by better camera, there are other factors like focusing speed, shooting speed, low light ability etc..

I just don't see where the Note 4 is better in any metric apart from higher megapixels.

The Note 4 also had a smaller work area, the screen looks tiny compared to the Note 8, the pen wasn't as feature rich, the internal memory was smaller, the fingerprint reader was much much more clumsy, Touchwiz needed more tweaking, it had a lower screen resolution with lower dpi, less battery life with a similar battery, slower network speed etc...

The note 4 did have the IR blaster I guess, I did find that useful at times.

Yep, that was a "PC in your pocket", although the Note 5 wasn't bad at all and at least had a decent aspect ratio. I really miss the days of Samsung stuffing everything but the kitchen sink into the Note series, THAT is what the Note series is supposed to mean. I have a feeling this slot will be taken over by foldable screens once that becomes a thing.

LoL get real, the screens are practically the same, only difference is that the Note 8 is taller (or wider if you hold it sideways). The Note 8 may be faster, as a new phone should be, but it isn't as feature rich as the Note 4! Also, with the release of the S9+, the Note 8 is worthless. The Note 8 is more expensive than the S9+, while delivering less. It's a bad phone and it tainted the Note lineup. I'd even rather pick up a S8+, and it's cheaper and you'd only be getting less ram (and not a built-in stylus). Sorry mate, Note 8 is bad.

I'm sorry but I've owned every model note except the first one, and the Note 4 screen can't compete with the Note 8 screen. The 8 has a much better screen when viewing them side by side.

It's not an opinion, you people are saying that the Note 8 has far superior screen because it has 523ppi while the Note 4 has 518 ppi. That is such a stupidly small difference that you'd need a magnifying glass to detect the difference. The resolution is due to the new aspect ratio. Side by side I don't really see a difference between my Note 4, and S9+ (S9+ has 529 ppi). You're just in denial. The Note 8 was a stain on the Note lineup, and hopefully the Note 9 revitalizes the Galaxy Note lineup

3D touch on the newer Galaxy models is just a sad RIP off of Apple's 3d touch. The screen has more color options to select, always on is a joke!

I'm probably going to stick with this phone for another year, for the first time.
The Note 9 looks to be an incremental update.
I rely on the pen too much to use an S series or another brand phone.

I know I'll enjoy using this for another year, it can't be that bad.
I can't imagine going backwards to a Note 4.

I use the always on display, it's great not having to reach over to see what the time is.

Samsungs 3D Touch is the bes replacement of a Physical Key, I now fully expect any every touch phone to have it and I am disappointed when I hard press another brand phone and realise I have to reach for the Power button to bring it out of sleep.

The fact that the Note8 is still more expensive than a S9+ says a lot IMO. I guessed it sees more demand, otherwise Samsung would have drastically cut its price surely.

The besides the Note7's 'lit' demise, it and Note8 are literally the same phone with 2 different aspect ratios and of course updated hardware in the latter. The Note8 is still a Powerhouse of a device, for me the SPen is the main thing, I cannot live without it.

Infrared Blaster was a loss, but we did not lose much else.

In my opinion the worst Galaxy Note was the Note5 as that did not even have Expandable Memory, and Samsung stripped away a lot in its UI features, but brought things back in the Note7 and Note8.

I take it back! You can also use it on any application to take you directly to the home page (like a real home button)! No more swiping up for me!

Dont understand why people would pay more for a phone with inferior hardware. The 0.1 inch screen size and stylus dont cut it for me, also the battery is smaller.

I am contemplating buying another Note 8. Yes, it is an expensive phone, almost $600. It will include a manufacturer's warranty + 1 year coverage extended warranty through a bank. I am interested in knowing if I can use this phone for the next two years? I am looking to get regular security patches and expect to get major OS updates (P and Q) in March/April of the following years (2019 and 2020).

Is this a fair expectation to expect a high end phone to last that long 6 months into its sell cycle? Or would I be better off going elsewhere for a more affordable phone?

The con is that it's not a mandatory Project Treble device. The pro is that the Note 8 is popular and praised enough, that Samsung will most likely continue to support updates on it for the next 2 years, but I doubt it will be as timely as the S9 and future models.
