Last weekend my buddy knocked his iPhone 13 Pro Max off a breakfast bar onto a hardwood floor (way less than 6 feet) and it landed face down perfectly flat and shattered the screen. Unfortunately it had no case on but fortunately he has Applecare+ so not as bad as it could of been. Glass phones break especially when they land just right regardless who the manufacturer is.. I'd never use a $1000+ phone without a case even with accidental coverage.
I'm just the opposite, no way I'm putting a case on a $1000+ phone. The look and feel is just too nice to cover up.

Samsung stuff is junk.

Are you saying iPhone's display, battery, CPU chip, storage and camera sensor are junk? Because depending on the version all or some of these components were made by Samsung.

This is dumb. It all just depends on luck. I dropped my iPhone a million times, no damage whatsoever. A friend kneeled down to tie his shoe once and his brand new iPhone slipped out of his pocket from a height of like 30 cm and it shattered

Same here, I do a lot of field work, my iPhone has taken severe drops on difficult terrain, never broken. My brother dropped it while on the sofa, probably the height of a coffee table, and it shattered immediately.

So the Samsung screen and back broke after 1 drop, and the iPhone 13 after 2... I mean, is that really THAT much better? And it sounds like the iPhone 13 might be one more drop away from being useless.

Not saying that difference should be dismissed. But given the number of variables that are out of control when doing these drop tests, that doesn't seem significant to me.

It’s also greatly slower in most of the world where they sell it with their own brand chip. Not a good year for Samsung phones I’d say. Looking forward to upgrading my 12 mini for a 14 mini (I’m still holding onto hope!)

Drop test comparisons between smartphones are like crash test comparisons for different models of car - interesting but not referred to when someone ultimately buys a car.
All the glass smartphones break way too easily.

Also I’ve never seen a drop test that was repeatable. All it takes is for a phone to land at a very slightly different angle and the results can be completely different.

I take great care when I handle my iPhone 13(magsafe silicon case), but it's good to know it could handle some damage, should the unspeakable happen.

Wow wow
I have been waiting for this test to ultimately decide which device to buy??

As someone that doesn’t use a case on my iPhone because even though tens of millions are sold every month I like to see the “premium” finish millions of others are seeing too?

Only cheap people use cases
I will rather pay for apple care so others can also enjoy this premium ubiquitous phone ??

If you’re broke just say that and buy a case
Now I can purchase the 13 pro max now that the drop tests have been released

It’s the curved glass. It’s a smash hazard and they are a pain to put a screen protector on. You drop the phone on it cracks on the curve then eventually the crack spreads to the rest of the screen.
Latest S22 and S22+ phones doesn’t have curved glass.

A friend who always has a shiiiiny iPhone never uses a case. His only explanation for this is that he looks after it properly.

The way I see it, all smartphones are potentially gonna break when dropped... you just need the wrong angle and BOOM. I know accidents happen and all but nothing will replace proper care for a $1000 device.

Please enlighten us as to what a “real” apple user is? ?
I didn't make the original statement but are we talking these days or 80's to mid-90's? :D

- These days? Random kids/hipsters who like shiny things and have cash to spare.

- 80's to mid-90's? A small, very particular group of people who weren't purchasing fab products from glitzy stores.

Every iPhone I’ve ever owned has lived inside of an Otterbox Defender, including my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I don’t care what the iPhone looks like naked, I’m only concerned about what I get via the screen, and in protecting that overpriced device! I’ve never damaged one yet. But I’m 64 and wisdom comes with age! Unfortunately a bunch of bad stuff comes with age too…

Two out of three were unusable???

The actuaries at Allstate must be screaming right now. You cannot draw valid conclusions from such small numbers. This is a publicity gimmick, not a valid test.
No, they sell insurance so this determines their risk exposure and pricing
