Of course, it's the Samsung (manufacturer of speakers of all kinds for decades) who is copying. The only "true innovator" is Apple - "perfecting" offers from Amazon and Google.

This religious attitude is absolutely pathetic.

The problem with Samsung is that they always "innovate" after an Apple keynote...

To be fair that’s not how R&D works. You don’t come up with a brand new product within a few weeks or even months and then release it. They generally work on this for a few years.

That is true but they do not have the product yet, Samsung just made an announcement. Also, who knows which part of the HomePod produced by Samsung. They probably had an idea what is coming.

Sorry Samesung, even if it was free I wouldnt reward your lack of ideas by owning it.
If you own Apple devices. YES, you actually do already. They just ain't outwardly branded as Samsung. Quit being so religious.

Apple has at least the decency of deconstructing the concept first and come up with a better offering. Samsung just blatantly copies. If you can't see that maybe you have religious freak tendencies as well.

Does Bixby actually work now? I thought it was funny they added a button dedicated to something that didn’t even work. And they made sure you couldn’t reprogram it ;)
I don't know. The Bixby Button currently takes me to a page very much like the iPhone widgets page. If I want more than that, I would have to agree to let Bixby track everything on my phone, including my messages, and share it with their partners, so I decided to skip that for now. With Google Assistant, which I use in a limited way, I can delve into everything that is collected and delete or limit what's stored and collected. I see no options to do so for Bixby so I won't sign on.

Remind me: what was the "better" part again?

This thread is already hilarious. Mass sentiment slamming copycat. Yet hop back to Apple's announcement and see very little of such claims applied to something very similar to existing products from Amazon & Google. Was Apple's HomePod an "original" idea? (rhetorical. I know some of us will find a way- ANY WAY- to NOT see Apple's version as a copy while seeing this thing as definitely a copy... and of only Apple's version.;))

I wonder when Hweeeh... Heehaw... Hickemaw... Hiawatha... what the heck is their name going to make a smart speaker using Ziao Bing Bong as the “assistant”?

People really need to stop comparing this thing to Siri. If you do that, you'll make the Bixby angry, and then it will turn into the huge and green Ferrigno. :)

Of course they are... seems to be the hot new thing to make a talking speaker.

It truly boggles my mind. What makes a person blindly 'see' a company in such a light?

Samsung Exec : "Amazon have made this home speaker"
Samsung CEO : "Ok, but wait just a bit...."
Samsung Exec : "Now Google have made a speaker. We really should make one to compete"
Samsung CEO : "Yeah, but waaaiiittttt....."
Samsung Exec : "Apple are making a spea.."
Samsung CEO : "WE SHOULD MAKE A SPEAKER"

Bonus conversation:
Samsung Exec : "How should we design it?"
Samsung CEO : "Uuuhh, like we always do? Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V"

Humor, such as this, is completely lost on me.

Right, and the Amazon version was out before the Apple version so does that mean that Apple copied Amazon and Samsung copied both?

Apple is producing a high end speaker which happens to have Siri, so what's your point. seems Samsung is closer to copying amazon and apple than anything else

Amazon copied Siri so hey hmm.

Oh please, get a hold of yourself. When Apple weren't first they innovated, (by buying other companies with the tech in a lot of instances which actually means that company did all the innovating), when anybody else does it they're copying.

Did you all say the same when Apple announced their smart speaker?

I think it's the timing. The Google Home and Amazon echo came out more than 12 months ago (2014 for the echo!). Sure Apple copied and entered the same market but they took their time.

The HomePod has been announced a month ago and isn't even on sale yet and now we're hearing Samsung is jumping in on the maket too.

There's a difference between copying and building on existing ideas which is what innovation is.

Echo is essentially a dedicated Siri box with better mics and speakers, for example.

HomePod takes that and makes it more useful by including some of the most advanced speaker tech we've seen in years.

Samsung OTOH has a history of photocopying so while we don't know what the final product will look like, all the flack they get is justified IMO.

By most advanced, you mean “occasionally better than a product that’s been out for over a year”, right?
