At least the screen has a matte finish, not sure why most displays have a glossy screen.

Matte typically diffuses the color coming from the screen as well has light from other sources.
Glossy is just plain regular glass. Folks have been OK with regular glass for hundreds of years. Matte is where smear/etch something onto the glass.

There are good and bad ways to implement both that diminish the negative trade-offs.

The cockpit setup is great for live traders also.
I use two Dell U4320Q for my trading setup. Look how the girl is stretching her neck when the monitor is in portrait mode.

oooof that ppi. the lowest i can possibly go is the 109ppi on this samsung G9. this screen makes up for it in width, which is a real win for my style of work. but 80-something ppl for 16:9? no way -_-

55" 4K is fine for tv (actually great) as you don't sit that close. For a monitor, its useless as the ppi will be too low and you can also forget retina. This product is DOA for any sensible person that values their vision.

no. 4K will always look sharp. for it to look bad, would have to sit closer than intended

Sorry I must've misheard Dan - did he actually say you could only have one HDMI input on screen and the other 2/3rds have to use it's built-in apps when in 'cockpit mode'?
Yes, I heard him say that, then later on, at 5:20 he says that there's a lack of ports on the back because Samsung uses its One-Connect Box that includes four HDMI 2.1 ports.

I'm confused.

.... My 1000 euro led tv from Samsung is still very good, even though its a dummy tv and not a smart one.

I made my decision already a few years back, until my home country will start broadcast in 4K in every tv channel there is no any point to upgrade my 1080p tv.

4K takes more bandwidth to transmit than HD broadcast. In most countries the amount of TV spectrum is fixed. That means bandwidth is a limited resource. Most "next gen" broadcast standards are picking up H.265/HEVC to pack more video data into a smaller amount of space. But H.265 works about as effectively on HD as 4K. Which means the TV station could possible broadcast even more channels with HD 'Sub channels". More channels means more commercials ( at least where not 100% funded by the government... ). If I recall correctly, most of the "Next gen" broadcasting standard do not technically 'ban' HD resolution from the standard. It is still there. So all of the content broadcast doesn't have to be 4K. The encoding is the major new thing, not the resolution. The new encoding provides more options in resolution more so than rigid new resolution standard.

Even more so if country is repacking TV stations into smaller spectrum so can re-assign some legacy TV spectrum into 5G wireless internet usage.

You could be waiting a pretty long time. Unless the government is mandating that all stations go 4K by date xx/yy/zz and the money for hardware upgrades flows like a non-drought river at the broadcasters,

Most decent mid-upper range 4K TVs ( in major markets) can upscale HD to 4K fairly well. No it won't magically become as 4K HDR content , but doesn't necessarily have to look like same old HD.

( for this Samsung TV "monitor" the tech blurb doesn't mention the upscaler but there probably is one that has been tuned to the miniLED backlight abilities. )

I just measured it at 22" from my eyes...
Maybe I don’t have the full peripheral vision that some have 🤦‍♂️😂

Even a 32” monitor monitor felt like it was too much. I got used to it but if I had to pick a size for me I would say 27”. I like multiple monitors but I don’t use them by looking between them like if it was one big wide one. I turn my head to each one and use them separately for different applications.

The curvature of the monitor determines the maximum distance away from the screen your eyes should be. Does Samsung provide the latter figure?

I'll tell you a secret if you don't snitch me out to Tim Cook... You can own a Mac AND a Windows PC. The PC is for gaming and the Mac for pretty much everything else.

Computers are like tools. How silly would it be if you had to decide if you wanted to own a hammer or a screwdriver. I mean I guess you could get away with pounding in screws with a hammer but not ideal 🤣
Yeah, owning a Mac plus a separate gaming PC would be the optimum approach for Mac users who want to play games. And if you can afford one of these, you can afford to buy both a Mac and a gaming PC.

Though it's worth noting that's often not the case--many can't afford to own both; just look at all the threads here from people trying to decide whether they should spend an extra $200 to get an Air with 16 GB RAM instead of 8 GB RAM. They might be able to buy a used PS or XBox, but not a decent gaming PC. There's a reason Apple's least expensive laptop is also its highest seller.

Likewise, if hammers and screwdrives cost over $1k each, I think you'd find a lot people didn't own both ;). Instead, they'd probably be buying tools that had a hammer on one end and a screwdriver on the other (a scrammer?).

Well everyone has a budget. I'm not rich by any means so it's not like I'm saying well why doesn't everyone drive a Ferrari. Also just because someone is debating on spending $200 for an upgrade doesn't mean it's their last bit of money they're spending. I find often people who are upper middle class or rich will be a bit more thrifty when it comes to wasting money. They're not going to say "I need 16 of RAM to browse Facebook and office docs". There's exceptions to every rule but for the people I've met in the USA they don't just waste money.

Everything is relative and my comment is based on life in the USA. There are other countries where if you're "poor" you might not be able to afford any computer and if you're lucky to have a Mac it could be a decade old. We all try to do our best to survive and when it comes down to it you get what is in your budget.

If you're on a really tight budget deciding if you want to spend $200 for a RAM upgrade on an M2 Air is probably the wrong question. You should be looking at an Apple refurbished M1 Air. If I was really tight on money that would have been my move.

My comment was a reply to "Apple user don’t play games anyway since Macs are crap from gaming…" which I think is a ignorant generalization and perhaps bait. Lots of Apple users game and even some hardheaded ones like me occasionally do it on a Mac. I agree that Macs are crap for gaming though.

I can do PbP in my Odyssey G9... two HDMI... but rotation has to be done by device I guess 😛

Sad that the Ark can't do that

Attached is image of Mac Studio connected via HDMI

1440 x 5120 😆

Looks ok and usable I guess...

I always have lots of windows open and even on my Samsung Odyssey 49" screen, I sometimes would like even more space so this new 55" monitor is half tempting me.
It has no Display port though and to get 5120 x 1440 on a Mac, It needs to be connected by a display port and have to use Switch ResX app.
The 55" Ark is only 3840 x 2160 so HDMI may work on a Mac but the PPI is lower than the 49" which is the biggest downer and all the reviews so far have been gaming themed and no-one using it for regular stuff, video editing, photoshop etc.
