So it's a voice assistant that can also block doorways and become a tripping hazard.

I already have plenty of devices that can run voice assistants, and I have a cat for that sweet blocking and tripping hazard :). So, no need.

This part.

I’m so over it. And the hype. Please let it die soon. Along with foldables (in my opinion).

I want to see Vision Pro esque things developing into mobile.

Not some lame AI bs which is meant to harvest my data.
Opposite thoughts here. What from vision pro would translate to mobile in your opinion? Or do you mean a separate device, more like smart glasses, as a replacement for a phone?

Foldables are amazing, have you had one yet? I wasn’t a believer until my ex got one, and it really changed how I looked at them. I got a Fold 3 and the only thing I didn’t like was Android, so I’m really excited for Apple to come out with their offering (though given the tariff situation I’m hoping it’s not >$3K

AI is meh but robots are the part that has me excited about it, though I’d only trust an Apple robot in my house given the cameras and sensors and potential for data collection

Google knows no one buying their dumbphones and wants each and every occasion to get your private information. And Samsung is just an engineer here. But what is the point of more data if their search engine is becoming more and more useless and bloated.

Oh btw it would be fun if in 3 years of Samsung’s auto-updates the robot would become lazy and unresponsive so user would rush and buy a new shiny model

Meanwhile way back in the dust is Apple intelligence, still on the drawing board, whilst iOS 19 and iPhone 17 are changing ahead. It’s becoming quite the rushed ecosystem.

The design reminds me a little of the droid ‘D-O’, part of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.

But the coloured lettering in the Samsung image is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make the product’s appearance seem more interesting 🟡

I can just imagine a pile of these having a meeting plotting global domination in a third world landfill site when the original users have worked out they're entirely useless.

Joking aside, home droids of initially simple – and increasingly complex – design seem highly likely to be part of our future.

They’ll probably be assisting people with disabilities and dependencies, mostly in richer western and Asian countries to begin with, but becoming more prevalent over time for general utility purposes.

So in that sense, it’s good to see robotic tech becoming more mainstream.

Just hope they don’t take over our planet… 🤖🌎

A long time since it was first introduced. Good to hear that it will finally be available to purchase this year. But I am not sure whether it will be available in all markets initially. Will be interesting to try it out.

Consider that the the majority of major innovations and commercial successes (ie successful companies) of the past 80 years or so have largely been about adding electricity to any and all tools we can think of (tools, utensils, bikes, vehicles).

Is it not likely that the next phase (or rather, this new phase we're in) is about adding intelligence to anything and everything we can.

AI doesn't need to be perfect or even reach AGI for this to happen.

Simply adding moderate intelligence to something that was previously "intelligence-free" has the capability of disrupting countless industries, creating new ones, and changing the world we live in.

In other words, this genie is not going back into the bottle, although I suspect the big winner and use cases will be far different from what we currently believe them to be.

I'm with you.

The idea of a general purpose android that can learn would be so valuable.

Need your dishes done? Your walls painted? That Ikea cabinet assembled? Let the android help you or have them do it for you.

The big question is how soon we get there. I suspect it will be a while still.

I'm so excited for whatever the next era is, so we can stop pretending "AI everything" is the entirety of the future.
HAHA if you think AI is going anywhere except into every aspect of our lives then you can keep dreaming of days gone.

I'm shocked that people assume its static and not a fast changing technology, AI is getting smarter very quickly, if you pay any sort of attention to the space then you will see consistent breakthroughs happening weekly at this point.
Try not to get left behind.

Now that people have become accustomed to listening and talking music speakers, surveillance by large companies is taking the next step ...

Looking over the recent comments, it struck me Roomba and similar robot vacuums are already doing some of this - robotic agents taking care of household tasks. And some of them incorporate robotic mopping units.

It may well be that the model evolves more like Alexa - sort of a cloud intelligence that operates/directs different physical 'bodies,' so it can draw on A.I., be interacted from anywhere in proximity to your smartphone or a smart speaker, etc..., in which case I question the need for a little 'robo-ball' to roll around after me.

Ballie sounds a lot like Alexa via an Amazon Echo Dot that can roll around and looks cute.

So the question becomes what practical functionality does the rolling yellow ball offer over the current Alexa smart home equipment model? The option to yell 'Hey, ball! Get in here!' from across the house?

don't want to sound to picky, but what's the point of having a robot that cannot do cr*p? if it is just another disguised chatbot, why does it need to be mobile? or is this feature just for some cringy fun?

If it can answer any question I throw at it, and remember things for me, it’d be a nice little smart pet imo.

I honestly want a bigger version that can walk around with me to the store etc though, with a small storage compartment I can put some things in
