It seems Samsung is the only Android OEM that takes security seriously enough to do something about it. They developed Knox that Google has adopted, they partnered with Blackberry for BES. I believe it was the Note 4 on sprint to be the first to get the patch for the Stagefright Bug before any Nexus. But now they've really taken the lead and are planning a new strategy for security updates. Samsung users will receive monthly OTA security updates. This is the way to go.

Already covered in the S6 thread ... http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/galaxy-s6.1844076/page-146#post-21672787

Oh and LG have meant to have released a patch themselves for one of its devices and Google announced they were doing this with Nexus too, so they are 'not' the only OEM to make this promise as you 'spin' this news item.

Promises likewise are worth **** unless they follow up on them. To that end we shall see, I remain healthily skeptical given Samsung's own rollout procedure of fixes and updates history. I even remain skeptical of Google given the delays in its recent update roll outs globally too.

I agree - envisioning google keeping up with the promise is a bit of a stretch, envisioning samsung doing the same is dreamland stuff

And Samsung cares so much about security they seem to be leaving the GS 4 and under unpatched, while google patches back to the nexus 4

Whole story generally is misleading and more nuanced than it has been reported...

What has actually been pledged is that if an important security update is released, the OEM's including Google will commit to pushing it out to android devices within a month.

They are not committing to monthly updates (to release a security update every month).

    That's a big difference.

And here I thought Google had seen the virtue of monthly security updates. Patch Tuesday for Google.

Call me skeptical but the whole thing just screams of a cleverly orchestrated marketing spin after the damage stage fright exploit has done to security on android ...

Give it two months, and we will be back exactly to where we are ...

LG says they're jumping on the monthly security update train too.

    This is all good.
