Not sure if this is what you are looking for, I"m a bit of a noob in settings. I hit the show cached processes tab.

Yeah even with cached services your running at twice as much ram free as me. That's a massive difference and would explain my reloading. Maybe art & lollipop are just too heavy in this build... it would explain why they stopped rolling it out generally.

I just booted upto recovery and flashed my cache there and no going to manually close other cached serviced and see if it improves.

I have an S4 but after using that for a couple years I'm interested in a phablet. Thing is I am pretty bored of customising and flashing now. I want a phone that "just works" so I am looking at the iPhone 6 Plus. I use a Chromebook for my computer so I'm not really invested in the Apple ecosystem right now but I am planning to get a "real" laptop soon which might be a MacBook of some sort so that could change.

Then again iOS has apps for the whole Google ecosystem anyway so I wouldn't be losing anything even if I kept using only Google services. GMail, Play Music and Keep are the most important to me and you can get those on iOS.

If I don't get a 6 Plus I'd get a Nexus 6, I wouldn't really touch Samsung again to be honest. Hardware isn't really that bad but their software is crap and my S4 has its fair share of bugs on custom ROMs. Main one that bothers me right now is that device encryption won't work unless I go back to laggy TouchWiz.

One of the other main things pulling me towards iOS is the privacy aspect too. Google, being an ad company, isn't exactly great for privacy. And for some reason Android doesn't even give you control over app permissions unless you root whereas that's built into iOS, as is reliable automatic encryption (it's always been buggy under Android ime) and device lockdown if it's reset.

Just thinking out loud I guess but the 6 Plus is looking like a good device to replace my Samsung with. None of this is a rush since the S4 is still pretty smooth but it's something I'm thinking about for sure.

The 6+ is a very nice device, just be aware that it's basically just a larger iPhone and doesn't have anything special to really make it anything other than just a larger iPhone. Nothing wrong with that if you like it. I put up with Touchwiz difficulties because it's such an awesome overlay and has so much functionality not found on any other phone, but I can understand if it gets on your nerves. Sounds like you won't go wrong with the 6+.

So I found Chrome was using like 350mb in Cache and Facebook 150mb and Kindle for Samsung 78mb.... I have disabled Facebook and deleted Kindle for Samsung (will install standard Kindle app off playstore instead) and switched from Chrome to Samsung's browser. Let's see if this hopefully improves things.

Perhaps these were creating a memory hole. Very shocked with chrome in particular seeing as I rarely ever use it.

Quick test and it's still doing it .... so it has to be lollipop / art being aggressive with memory.

Frustrating because otherwise lollipop is so much more aesthetically pleasing on it compared to 4.4.4 but this refreshing is annoying.

The 6+ is a very nice device, just be aware that it's basically just a larger iPhone and doesn't have anything special to really make it anything other than just a larger iPhone. Nothing wrong with that if you like it. I didn't know Samsung had a kindle version, is it better than the stock one? I'd hate to lose Chrome, that's a shame you have to uninstall it. Facebook I have no use for so I don't blame you.

I didn't know Samsung had a kindle version, is it better than the stock one? I'd hate to lose Chrome, that's a shame you have to uninstall it. Facebook I have no use for so I don't blame you.

On galaxy app store .. they give you a selection of cheaper books each month to choose from. 🙂 you have to install it from the galaxy app store though and don't forget you get a free premium Evernote subscription if you install it through there too 🙂

I think the only thing I'd miss is Android Wear. I do prefer it to the Apple Watch to be honest and I like that I got my G Watch for under £200. I probably wouldn't spend £300 on the Apple Watch and I doubt I'd get even £100 back from selling the G Watch.

Speaking from my personal experience with the five iPhone 6 models and four Nexus 5 models I bought for my family of geeks 🙂 I cannot recommend the iPhone 6 at this time. Perhaps in time after Apple fixes the crashing and other problems with iOS 8, at least I sure hope they fix it.

There's five of us in my family and we all enjoy multiple phones because none are perfect, but currently our Nexus 5 models running ver 4.4.4 are excellent. Fast smooth and totally trouble free, it's a delightful experience. No crashes like my super frustrating iPhone 6 Plus.

I wish I could brag about Apple like I used to, but I'd be lying. I'm NOT bashing Apple, I like them to much. I'm just being honest.

Perhaps then lollipop 5.0.1 is to blame ? Maybe that's why they have seemingly halted it's rollout ? I mean everything else on this device is fast, but yeah the reloading is annoying.

Out of interest what's your memory usage like after opening them all can you post an image ?

I notice number of apps shown as active is less than the 9 backgrounded, so maybe lollipop is being too aggressive in killing my apps despite having 500mb supposedly free / left ?

Even when I go back into multitasking and refresh all of them and then go back into memory / taskmanager it's not showing them all as active which surely they should be?

Frequently crashes when using any app or browser. In addition so many other issues it's too long to list. Apple replaced my first pre-ordered iPhone 6 Plus, yet this one is only better from a hardware standpoint. The first one bent, and I'm extremely careful. I've never used or needed a screen protector as an example and never scratched a display. That's spanning 9 years and over 61 phones. I take exemplary care of all my tech gear.

Software, Apple has always shipped excellent OS's. I've bought nearly every new Apple laptop since 1991, oh sure they initially have some small bugs and that's to be expected. I'm a high tech engineer of twenty years I don't expect perfect software. Yet since 2012 Apple has learned what customers will tolerate and still keep buying, so Apple now ships to that lower standard while profiting off "it just works" slogan that's a thing of the past.

Where Apple chooses to go from here remains to be seen. Proof positive that they admit there's problems is a statement they made saying iOS9 focus is improving quality. I'll believe it when it happens. 🙂

Did you disable any apps or anything? Ive done a factory reset and it's in process of re downloading all my apps now, previously I had disabled a number of apps like Instagram, penup, s-voice etc. thinking maybe I should leave them enabled this time ?

By the way where abouts in South Africa are you? I was born in Capetown and still have relatives in Johannesburg , Pretoria, Durban and Capetown 🙂. I left when I was young child, but used to return every summer to my grandma and aunties 🙂

iOS 8.2 is as stable as any. Any continued crashing might simply be something hiding in your backups/software. A fresh restore would likely fix them if they are that frustrating.

Just trying to help - my wife is experiencing a very specific crashing with her reminders app that hasn't gone away. My guess is if she did a complete restore, it'd go away as I don't have the same issue. I'll probably do it for her at some point.

I don't experience the crash. Would seem to me if it were a problem with the software that it would affect everyone (or a large portion).

We haven't tried anything to rectify the situation for her yet so that's where I'm at. If we restore her 6 and set up as new and she still has the problem, it'll be an OS thing.

My wife has a 6, I have both the 6 and 6+. I think it's just a bug that's stuck around in her iCloud backups and has been transferred to her 6.

I haven't had any recurring crashes or such on ios8 either on my iPhone or iPad Air 2. Basically everyone's experience can vary. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just means you can't just paint everyone with same brush. Much like my lollipop experience on the Note 4 shouldn't be seen as everyone's, only mine. (Thankfully KitKat for me is solid). Again it doesn't invalidate or make individual experiences any less true/real, but doesn't at the same time speak for whole.

Software is man made, hardware is man made, man is not infallible. All devices can have their problems ... Much like all humans can have theirs 😉

For what its worth, I'm on a 6+ on 8.2 and have no issues with frequent crashes or reloading apps.

It's not 100% - then again it never is with any tech. But I don't have anywhere near the issues of the above poster. Seems to be a YMMV situation.

I would ask if the quoted poster has used an iOS device on 8.2?
