Apparently the doors have been detaching mid-cycle. One person was left with a broken jaw! Oops!

They are a massive company, but in light of the phone fiasco, one has to wonder about their QC standards.

Personally I dislike the company. However, I do feel a tiny bit sorry for their run of bad luck!

Marvelous. I have one of those. :(

Their proposed solution is to either replace the lid or provide a voucher to buy a brand new machine (theirs or another brand) and they will take the old one away at no charge.

Since mine was 'open box,' I may choose the second option.

No one stays to watch the washer while its spinning. It's in a closed off room, so if the cover flies off, who cares.

And you thought Apple was having a run of bad news.

Sorry to hear that. I hope they can sort out the voucher quickly for you. Personally, I would demand a full refund plus compensation for the inconvenience this will cause. But, knowing what kind of company we're dealing with here, I doubt you'll get anything like that.

I'm glad people are finally starting to realise what a shoddy company Samsung is!

Houston Fire Department : SE HOUSTON HOUSE FIRE STARTED IN NOW-RECALLED SAMSUNG WASHING MACHINE
A Houston family told Eyewitness News a recalled washing machine burned down their family house. The fire happened on August 28 at the Bob family's home on the 5800 block of Southurst Street on the southeast side of the city.

Katina Collins said the model in question is a Samsung top-loading machine. At the time, it wasn't recalled. Today, the model was part of a massive recall by the company. Samsung recalled almost 3 million machines, citing concerns they might explode.

Collins told us Samsung sent out a representative to look the fire. The family hasn't heard much since the visit. A Houston Fire Department report said the "fire began in wash room in the back from an apparent electrical cord to the washing machine."

Collins recalled the conversation with investigators and offered up advice for anybody who has a machine on the recall list.

"They told us that the fire started inside of this Samsung top-loader washer. They said that the fire completely melted the inside of the washer," said Collins.

"Take immediate action. Don't delay. If you know that your machine has been recalled, unplug it. Get on it right away because I don't want this to happen to anybody. This is a life-changing and devastating event. Nobody should have to go through this, especially when you work hard and you've paid for this equipment. Take action. Don't delay," she added.

Collins said the house belongs to her 69-year-old parents, Mary Bob and Arthur Bob Sr. They're both retired and had paid off the house. Collins explained they are now renting a property because the damage is so extensive.

Eyewitness News reached out to Samsung about the couple's fire. The company said they are looking into the situation and will update us.

Talk about deja vu all over again... in the worst way. :(

Oh god, that's really sad. I wonder why it's taken so long to start recalling them? They've been in production for 5 years!

Samsung always go on about how customer safety is their top priority. But, if it was, then they wouldn't have released (and re-released) such dangerous products. Screw you Samscum!

I'm just waiting for someone to come on this thread to defend them. I'm sure there are some who'd defend them no matter what. Thankfully no-one has died (yet).

To be fair, the cause of the fire has yet to be proved beyond HFD saying it may have been the power cord. That brings a lot of variability into the equation.

I imagine lawyers on both sides will be able to muddy the waters considerably.

Fair enough. Yes, it's easy to jump to conclusions and pile on the criticisms.

Samsung homeware division is really looking mighty grim plus their one huge cell phone debacle.

On the other hand, Samsung SSD's kick serious ass and their home entertainment dept ain't bad either.
