What about people who need glasses. They can’t take them off in inappropriate situations.
My thoughts too since I wear real glasses not sure how places will "enforce" in public yet privacy required areas
*basic examples financial institutions, non-public facing work place, gym locker rooms, restrooms etc....

With respect, in my opinion if you wear these or any similar glasses, you’re a creep.
Totally agree

Don't worry when apple releases their all new never before thought of Ai glasses, there will be fanfare galore. And claims Samsung stole their idea....ha ha.
You may be referring to Apple fanboys. Apple has never made any such claims except in courts where they reference specific software and hardware patents.

If Apple doesn't have compelling answers to the issues with smart glasses, they shouldn't release such a product themselves.

Probably unpopular opinion, as these do have good use cases (even for me) -- but the bad PR and behavior could drown out all of the good.

Unless things like this include AR I really cant figure out what the point is outside of being a weird creep videoing everyone all the time

Like, camera aside, everything else can be done with airpods and let you not be a jackass to everyone around you by filming all the time.

The only excuse for a camera is AR

They may market that as the main selling point but they'll keep on ignoring reality. Most reviews of all the Meta and similar products say the main selling points are

  1. They are decent glasses for vision correction or sun protection.
  2. They are surprisingly convenient headphones.
  3. They are a discrete and hands free camera.
Except literally no one wants randos to have discrete hands free cameras everywhere 🤷‍♂️

Wait until evil Musk gets in the game... introducing the new {insert tech company} Locutus eyeglasses featuring Elon Musk designed neural brain implants that connect you to everything all at once. Complete with subliminal indoctinations to love Elon and maybe DJT if they're still pals.

Like I said years ago, people will stop using handheld devices around 2027-2028. Kids in 2030s will look back at us laughing how could we even walk and type / play / watch videos on a so called phone at the same time.
Counterpoint: no way these or anything like them are allowed in schools, so kids at least wont be using them much.

My wife’s a teacher, there’s already enough problems with cell phones that her school, starting next year, along with many many others, is banning them during the day

AR specs with an outward facing camera that is used only for processing scene information and which cannot be recorded, for privacy reasons. That's what we need. AR that can give me useful stuff based on what I can see is potentially very useful. AR that can take covert videos or pictures is an invasion of privacy. Same for the microphone: listen to conversations and process them, as my assistant, and use them to give me useful contextual data, even do translation. But do not record or transcribe covertly.

What is the point of the glasses if there is no display? Unless it's prescription, and I'm sure that would be a hot item.

What's the gimmick?

If it had a HUD, with a light design, people would go nuts for it, in spite of the risks, which along with AI are already there.

The next big thing could be this. That is if it can be done, which is unknown

It feels like tech companies in general are shoving AI and wearables down our throats. Most people I know, including myself don't give a s**t about it about either one.
