Does anybody of you know if you van remove the partition with the encryption and then use the drive without kexts / drivers? So I can install Ubuntu on it.

Ifti,

Since you are only using Mac, did you reformat the T1 or are you using the exFAT format?

Please let me know. I got the T1 and it seems pretty slow. I copied ~70GB of pictures and videos and it took over 20min.

My old WD Passport HDD 5400rpm was surprisingly faster than the T1 and I am wondering what the heck is going on.

Thanks.

Ok for those who were interested - I received my unit today.
First impressions are good! The drive is small and light! Really impressive with what they can fit into such a small and light body!
The plastic is a decent quality and looks like it will withstand some shocks, but its something you'd want to take care of regardless considering the cost!

The driver installation and activation are painless, and the software actually works quite well, even on MAC. No issues to report do far.
Software seems simple, but effective. Gives some goodnight.
The AES encryption and password protection work flawlessly, and better still the encryption does not seem to slow down the drive.
I didn't like that fact that you need to install the driver on every MAC you want to use the drive on, considering I have a few systems. Although I guess its a one-time thing so not a deal breaker.

A quick speed test gave me around 430MB/s Read and 380MB/s write - so a little under their specified speeds, but I guess thats expected.

To put that in real usage terms - I transferred 36GB of images/video files across from the internal drive on my rMBP (spec in sig) to the Samsung T1 in just under 2 mins!! Pretty impressive!

I'll create a video review of my thoughts, details, and speed tests soon ;)

20 minutes isn't bad for transferring over 70 GB considering it's through USB 3.0. Imagine how long that would take through USB 2.0...

If you do the math, it's very slow for an SSD, and slow even for a HDD. A good SSD over USB 3.0 should do at least 360MB/sec.

I'm pretty sure I left the drive on exFAT.

I have also just received a Sandisk Extreme 500 which I have been testing today. Speeds are very similar to the T1 - just copied a 6GB file over the the Sandisk in under 30 seconds!!!
