I have a Samsung T7 touch SSD, and i cant seem to get it to work with my 2020 iPad Pro. I plug it in, and it recognizes it, but soon as I unlock with my fingerprint, the drive disappears and doesn’t show back up. I’ve gotten it to show up once, but it was extremely slow, and would crash the files app.

I’ve watched some YouTube videos on it, and it seems like they’ve gotten it to work flawlessly. Am i doing something wrong?

Can't get it to work, neither! Except: The drive stays visible, but there is only the "Android" textfile. Which is also visible before you unlock the ssd. Connecting it back to the MBP everything works as expected! T7 is in exFAT and 2TB... and i don't get it!!

Can you reformat your T7 to APFS? I just did this working with a similar issue for an external drive formatted to work with Time Machine and my Mac as MacOS Extended (Journaled). Could see the folders briefly in the Files app but couldn't access them. I temporarily moved all of the drive contents to a Mac folder, reformatted the external drive to APFS, and moved the files back. Voila, the iPad now has access to everything on the external.

This solution seems to make the most sense--I would think that would be the fix.

Could be a solution, but..... the MBP recognises the T7; i can unlock it with my fingerprint, macOS can read and write on it and i can unmount it. Back on the iPad pro: nothing, niente, nada. Only the "Read-Only" part with 40 something MB is visible. No unlocking, no matter, what i'm doing. And the most importand Thing: I need the T7 in both worlds: macOS (IOS) and Win10. so exFAT would be the solution for me. But (not to look stubborn) i will give the APFS-Fileformat a try. Thanx in advance and: I'LL BE BACK😎

It’s possible that the fingerprint sensor in the T7 requires some sort of driver to work. This would run normally on the MacBook without any issues, but my understanding is that drivers would not be able to run on iOS, thus preventing the sensor from unlocking the drive like it should?

I had a similar issue with a usb c adaptor where the audio jack ran fine on my windows laptop, but didn’t work on my ipad.

If you enabled the fingerprint sensor it requires software On the pc / tablet that you plug it into. I have the 1T T7 and avoided they fingerprint for that reason. (It’s double the speeds of the T5 which is why I got it)

No, it requires NO Software!! Its a hardwarebased encryption, no matter what system you use. The software is only needed to configure the T7-Touch!!
Now, as i promised to keep you informed, the following has happend: Before i reformatted the T7, i did a Coldstart on the iPad; switched it off and on again; connected the T7 to the ipad, used the Fingerprint reader and..... The T7-Touch was unlocked immediately!!! So now i can use the T7 as intended.
Thanx to all of you, for your time and willingness to help. I appreciate that!

I’m getting the same issue.

I have setup security on the T7t, run the update and plugged it into my iPP 11 (2020)... and nothing.

All I get are the install files for the various OS and a txt file to inform me that it is a read only partition.

I guess I’m going to have to format the drive, but what is the best format type for iPadOS in primary use?

Is there a possibility to format the T7 touch with APFS file system?
Or will It be useless?
The reason for the question is that the T7 with touch is much cheaper than the T7 without touch and the T5 during this weekend, and I will never use the secure touch
