If we count numbers of Samsung phone on earth, Samsung beats apple for sure, then thief has much better chance using Samsung instead of Apple.
And how well are those spread compared to iPhones?
Also most Samsungs are probably not capable of communicating with these tags as they’re older generations.
These are just assumptions of course.

This is latest shipment %, I guess all new phones support these tracking.

Quite likely, though I'm not sure exactly on which models of Samsung have the capability compared to Apple's devices... Even so, I think the video is pretty flawed in respect of how it portrays the usage and reliability of the respective trackers - I'd doubt neither Samsung nor Apple really intended to use them for tracking if a car is stolen... but more if someone leaves a small personal possession behind somewhere such as handbag, wallet, jacket, bag etc.
This.

Apple have made it abundantly clear on multiple occasions that AirTags are NOT designed, ergo NOT be used for tracking stolen items.

The video provided by the OP is predicated on which device works best for tracking a stolen vehicle - and the OP then uses said video to state that Samsung have a better device period, as a result.

So the whole point of the video is utterly meaningless as it’s suggesting AirTags fail at doing something they are NOT designed to do.

Not Apple’s fault this in the video, guy and the OP want to use AirTags for a purpose they’re not designed for.

How about you lost a bag in an Uber car? Same thing.

You need to track the car first right? The bag is in the car.
Yes. But your original complaint is that the Apple Tag doesn't help you stalk the car in real time, because it doesn't update frequently enough, which isn't what it's designed to do. But it would help you know *where* you left the bag so you can get in touch with Uber and arrange its return.

I bought an AirTag hoping to track my portable generator when I am using it. I don't want to be notified when I leave my home. I only want to be notified when it "leaves" a geofence around my home.

Can an AirTag do that without notifying the "suspects"? Or is there a better product that supports that without a monthly extortion fee?

I haven’t complained anything, you can believe AirTag is better.

Without even looking into it, I'm guessing the Samsung tag is probably much better, because it hasn't been gimped by any of the numerous restrictions Apple has put on AirTag that limit its real world usefulness.

Limit its real world usefulness?
What world do you live in where you need a 25$ Apple device to stalk someone?
Apple prevents certain behaviour because of stuff like this. That makes it less useful as a stalking device and more as what it’s supposed to be. A better Tile.

Apple's AirTag has a BT/UWB range of about 10 metres max...

I find the BT range is a good bit more than that - an Airtag in my garage is regularly picked up by folks iphones in cars going past the end of my driveway (~30m long).

But considering that any real world "thief" stealing a car is likely to have a phone on their person, which would also be reporting the location depending on they type of tracker/phone combination... then this video really isn't that reflective of real world scenarios since the "better" tracker is going to boil down to whether the tracker in the car is the same as the phone on the thief(s) or not... I guess putting BOTH tracker types in possibly would be best.

I'd also say the whole which-is-better question is moot for so long as AirTags require an iphone for setup and Samsung Smart Tags require a Samsung phone for setup. (virtually) nobody is going to change ecosystems based on which tracker they want to use.

The thing is, you really haven't told us why you think the Samsung tags are better. You can certainly have your own opinion, but you can't just drop a video in our face and expect us to come up with the same conclusions as you did without any other explanation. Tell us why, and have a conversation instead of just posting a few words.

I take it that you think the Samsung tags are better because the location updates more frequently, and you can push a button to find your phone.

On the flip side, one could argue that the AirTags are better because they lack these. They're more privacy minded because it doesn't show your location right away if you were being stalked...and no one can push a button to find your iPhone to steal.

But you know what's great? We have a choice because they are different. If you think the Samsung tags fit your needs better, get those (and switch to Samsung like you were talking about earlier). Likewise, people who think AirTags are better can get AirTags. People need to lighten up on the fanboy attitude of us-vs-them and that one must be better than the other.

Sometimes, people aren’t interested in a conversation. They just desire to say something contrary in order to get a response. Whether there’s any data to back up the assertion barely matters as long as they get the response. I’m not saying that’s what anyone in this thread are doing, just that sometimes, that’s what happens.
