Samsung today announced that it will hold its next major "Unpacked" smartphone event on Wednesday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The company claims that it will introduce the "next evolution" of Galaxy AI, which will change the way people interact with the world, setting a new bar for mobile AI experiences.

Samsung first showed off Galaxy AI in July when it introduced the Galaxy ZFold6 and the ZFlip6, demoing features like a sketch feature that turns drawings into images, a Notes app with translation and compose features, Google Gemini integration, text suggestions, real-time call translation, and AI photo tools like Portrait Studio for creating portrait styles for images.

The Unpacked event will see the launch of new S series smartphones that are designed to compete with Apple's flagship iPhone 16 models. This year, Samsung will debut the Galaxy S25 series with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chips.

Rumors suggest the new smartphones will have larger displays and a more curved design with rounded edges, though much of the focus is expected to be on AI features. Samsung is also working on an Android-based mixed reality headset that will run Google's Android XR operating system, and it's possible Samsung will show it off at the event. Samsung's upcoming headset will compete with the Apple Vision Pro, but it is not expected to be as expensive.

Meanwhile literally the only feature from Apple Intelligence I’m still using fourmonths in is… ChatGPT integration into Siri to answer questions better without resorting to web results.
That’s it, everything else has been disabled.

Oh, I guess “proofread” is nice, but it’s nothing really new. Spelling and grammar checking has been a thing for decades.

Call recording is the most useful feature that Apple announced alongside all of their “AI” stuff but… that’s technically not even a part of Apple Intelligence in the end. You can use that all the way back on the XR.

This is not going to work you guys need to think about something else, you’re taking away from the experience of having a mobile phone. We don’t wanna be stupid and just tell the phones what to do for us. That is not a mobile phone experience. All of you with AI will flop.
The Apple commercials with the AI wild , it shows the users being lazy , not knowing anything and everyone being so happy that they used AI and did nothing. It’s not making sense and we will stop buying your phones forever.

That was so dystopian and off putting

It blew me away that anyone at Apple thought those were “good” and definitely something they should release

I think one showed a wife who had totally forgotten her husband’s birthday and was embarrassingly having AI do a photo memory slapped together last second as a gift

That as your “gift” is embarrassing enough on its own.. to say nothing of totally forgetting your spouses birthday

Just horrendous concept and writing and all of it.

Maybe Apple Intelligence came up with the AD idea?

Won’t be difficult to beat Apple Intelligence. It’s the most useless feature on my Mac. Using ChatGPT directly is so much better and reliable. Not to mention asking Siri/Apple Intelligence for advanced math stuff — the equations come all broken.
Chat GPT is also terrible at math. But Siri is awful too.

I notice they haven’t been playing those terrible commercials lately.

More crazy hype.

Reminds of days of old and snake-oil peddlers, with their 'magical cure-alls'. Some things never change.

"It will change the way you, live, think, breathe, sleep, eat, have sex, ......"

Hopefully it is either easy to delete or turn off. Complain all you want about Apple Intelligence, but at least it is easy to turn off and ignore.

Bixby is back! Everyone loved it so much the first time around.
Cant believe it took 12 comments before someone dropped the B-word lol 😅... Samsung make some great hardware, they just need to stop trying to make half assed copies of software features. I know someone will pipe up and say "Competition is always needed" and I agree, when it's actual competition. People wont buy these phones for these features alone anyway, (like they really shouldn't for Apple Intelligence either - not just fanboying over here), and like I said Samsung Hardware is on the whole gorgeous... but based on the majority of my friends who have had Samsung devices the first thing they do is ditch or remap to replace with established services from Google.

What happens on -all- android devices.
Had a Nexus and the first thing I had to do was change the keyboard because it was awful. Androids customization is great but you also literally have to customize the software because the defaults they give you on any device are usually beyond horrid and need tweaking.

I went back to IOS as I got older and just wanted things to -work-. I don't want to have to customize every inch of my phone for it to work as a phone. Just need to send a text and take a call. ( I sound like im 90 but I'm 27)
