That is why every company is doing it because no one wants it ...
Untold billions are pouring into AI development because its a fascinating area but no company has managed to turn it into a commercial product yet. Customers are so used to voice assistants being a feature of their hardware rather than a product by themselves. Viewed as sophisticated software, most consumers don't even want to pay $2 for a videogame for their phone.

I maintain Apple have had the ability to improve Siri for over a decade but chose not to spend the R&D because they know from anonymous user data that people don't use it for much more than setting reminders, timers and playing songs. The general public just isn't interested in AI as a concept and if anything is more than a little fearful of it.

Companies keep putting it in because honestly they don't have much else to go on. Smartphones have plateaued but not everyone is on the same upgrade cycle so they need to keep the annual snowballing going.

Definitely not a feature I would upgrade my phone for. Would be waste of money. I need phone to take good photos occasionally, to have a good photos app (I am looking at you, iOS 18!), make calls, receive sms, be able to install whatsapp and other IM apps

"AI" has to be the most overused, overhyped initals of 2024. My PDF editor has an AI button on it. The results from clicking it are so redundant it's comical.

3 years ago they used to call it an algorhythm...

Consumers will pay a sub and the dedicated will fork out for umpteen IAP in games like Genshin Impact. But putting them behind an immediate paywall?

Won’t be difficult to beat Apple Intelligence. It’s the most useless feature on my Mac. Using ChatGPT directly is so much better and reliable. Not to mention asking Siri/Apple Intelligence for advanced math stuff — the equations come all broken.
I’m curious as I’m Dutch and using the Dutch Siri version.

I asked Siri to set two timers.

Siri asked for what time?

My respond was: one timer for 5 minutes and another for 10 minutes.

Siri respond: I’ve set timer two for 15 minutes and the clock is counting.

🤪

Can anyone with an English version of iOS 18.2.1 try it with their version of Siri?

It’s a very simple task and I’m just curious if only the Dutch version is lagging or it’s also useless in English too???

So if I’m understanding it right Samsung comes this January with a fully functioning personal assistant that’s integrated while (when the rumors come true) Apple will have these same capabilities in iOS 19 in a later stadia sometime in 2026?

Nobody wants this

Just stop

All of you companies

Please just stop
You mean you don't want a smartphone to become a smartphone?

AI will eventually become integrated with everything in your life, whether you personally want it or not. Someday, I wouldn't be surprised to see AI completing major surgeries in its entirety in order to reduce medical malpractice errors for hospitals and private practices.
