Were you outraged at Apple for wasting court time?

It would depend on the case. If it's a corporation trying to weasel out of a fine over something they're clearly guilty of, then even if it were Apple, I'd disapprove. I can't say I know the specifics, only that I've seen the comparison shots over the years and it really does appear to me that Samsung has been copying Apple's designs--from hardware down to icons.

Samsung would still be making T9 flip phones if apple didn't pave the way.

No - they wouldn't. Not even remotely.

Ok- the collusion case. Should Apple have just paid up instead of appealing?

Nothing unusual with Samsung doing this. This is their primary MO when ripping off IP. Except this time Apple is killing them in the Smartphone category. Samsung has failed tremendously copying Apple. Serves them right.

Are you suggesting that Samsung would never have developed or implemented touch screen technology if not for Apple?

That would be quite a silly, Apple-butt-kissy position to take.

It's quite likely that, had Apple not gotten into the smartphone game, others would have filled the void, used touchscreens, and Samsung would have copied them.

Or they could have eventually gotten there on their own.

The world doesn't revolve around Cupertino; likely to your dismay.

One quick example, before people go all 'nuclear' on Samsung on here, perhaps I should remind you of this:

The trademarked clock owned by the Swiss Railway company that Apple STOLE and put into iOS, it then released said iOS update with the trademarked clock to the public and that was the first time the Swiss Railway Company knew Apple had stolen it.
The Swiss Railway Company then approached Apple who then paid 21 million $ for it's use, most likely to save embarrassment of removing the trademarked clock design they stole and because Apple was threatened with legal action.

Just showing that Apple steals too.

All the major phone manufacturers already had touchscreen phones in their roadmap. Apple just sped things up along by showing that the market was ready for a keyboardless phone. One should also remember that if it weren't for Samsung, Motorola and others, Apple would have spent SO much more money on R&D to produce the iPhone. The iPhone, while fantastic, was built on the technology and advancements from years of R&D of other companies.

Buddy bought an S5 recently and the water resistant trapdoor on the bottom of the charging port fell off after two days of use. I asked him did he get it fixed, he said no, they wouldn't fix it. He said they said it was a cosmetic issue, and they were not responsible. Junk company.

Apple just made the iPhone 6s housing over 2 times stronger. Does that make the iPhone 6 bendable junk? If there were no issues the same material and strength would have been used. This new material cost up to 5 times the amount compared to what was used. Tells me that the bending issues were real.
So loose/missing usb port cover vs the entire body being suspect?

Of the top of my head I can think of about 7 touch screen phones that were on sale before the iPhone, all with resistive screens though. But it was in no way a new idea.

No doubt. My point was more about pointing out the short sighted sycophantic silliness of some on this board who feel Apple is the only innovative company in tech.

Here's a newsflash for the blind faithers: every tech company has (gasp!) borrowed and even stolen from other tech companies!

I know the op you quoted was being derogatory, but ironically, Samsung (and LG) is bringing back the flip phone for the Chinese market primarily.
Samsung G9198 - Dual screen flip phone

LG Wine - Single screen flip phone

Indeed - I read that too. A little different. And not at all what the OP (as you know) was implying...

Buddy of mine bought an iPhone 4 and would drop calls when he held it in a very common way. I asked him if he got it fixed and said no, they wouldn't fix it. He said they said that he was just holding it wrong. Junk company.

Anecdotes like this are a dime a dozen and apropos of nothing. Here's mine: My S5 is in great shape. No scratches, port door intact, and still flying. With my Apex Launcher set up just the way I like it, my S5 is unique to me. See? Two anecdotes, both pretty meaningless.

OT: Both Samsung and Apple use the legal system to their advantage when they can. Just like any other company or individual would do. Rightly or wrongly, using the laws on the books, they're both doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing.

Personally, I wish both companies would sort it out without the court. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to happen. It now seems less about the possible fine and more about how Apple wants to be paid for IP vs how they want to pay for other's IP. That's why all the other big boys got involved.

If I follow: Without a court battle, Apple paid $21M to a railway company for stealing the design of a clock that the railway doesn't sell and that served as the look for one small utility app and in no way competed, or otherwise interfered, with the business of Swiss Railway Company.

I hadn't been terribly partisan on this issue, but now that you point it out it sounds like a strong argument in favor of Samsung just sucking it up and taking this honey of a deal they've got now!

I dunno. If SCOTUS can find a way to rule on this case that forces major patent reform, then I'm all for them taking it. If they rule narrowly on this one issue and simply add to the confusion, I hope they stay out. It seems a bit undignified.

It would be a ratings bonanza for Judge Judy though!

Apple paid out of court before it got there, which they were being threatened with. Doesn't matter if it didn't interfere with the Swiss Railway Company, Apple stole their trademarked design.

This is what needs to happen, I mean when you have a system so utterly corrupt and broken that a company can patent a rectangle with round corners!! You know it's time for change...

I fully hope this goes to the highest court in America and that they request a complete American patent system overhaul and inject some common sense into it, and remove the corruption.
And they should throw out the entire Apple VS Samsung case considering the biggest patent Apple won on has been void by said patent office.

They need to start from scratch I think with the whole system, stop letting corporations use it to gain market share. Then again that's like getting corporations to pay their taxes correctly!

...But unlike Samsung, Apple paid up. They didn't keep taking the SRC to court repeatedly to get the fine down (or removed).
