What worries me about their future products is that they are not using samsung for their displays anymore. That leaves LG and sharp and are samsung not the better choice of displays when it came to the macbook?
If true then apples arrogance amazes me and it's obvious they don't give a **** about the quality of the end product.

Fact: If yours has problems, you can exchange it for one that doesn't. It will still have an LG display, and it won't be dysfunctional :eek:

Samsung has since denied the validity of the report, but how it reads is:

Apple has reduced is reliance on Samsung for displays to the point where Samsung can no longer give Apple bulk discounts and Apple is not willing to pay more because they get their displays cheaper from other suppliers.

Wrong again. You're good at that...

Apple is replacing the displays on the rMBP that fail their (remarkably poor) image retention test with ONLY Samsung displays right now... I had mine replaced a few weeks ago. Sounds like Apple realizes there is a problem with the LG displays but doesn't want to publicize it...

You really might want to look into topics a little bit before you comment on them.

Why? I don't like huge screens. Thats why I got the HTC One S. Still better than the iPhone. I don't like Samsung phones because all they do is copy Apple. There skin looks like iOS as well.

B&N refused the NDA and outed the patents in question. It's the same BS they try to use against Linux, things like their vfat patent. Android uses the Linux kernel after all and that's what Microsoft is leveraging. Too bad most Android OEMs (aside from B&N) either don't want to anger MSFT (because they are also Windows OEMs) or just don't have the money to litigate and think it's cheaper to settle.

What public domain software ? I'm only aware of open source software used in Android, not public domain software. Apple uses much of the same components in their own Darwin based operating systems.

I already give you the link of the information. If you don't believe it, move on. For me I believe the Foss Patent site. It has the best coverage of all the patent lawsuit around the globe. And it identified a lot of the problems on both Apple, Google and Msft way before it appear in court document.

The assertion that Android OEM don't want to anger MSFT is more than bizarre. Did HTC has a Window offering? And these are mulitple of hundreds of million dollars decision (to pay royalty or not). If they think they can get away from it, why wouldn't they?

You can keep asking people for information, but you need to form your own informed opinion about the world that we live in. Do you really believe that Apple and Google is not at war in the mobile world dominance? Do you know that Bing is the default search engine in Amazon Kindle Fire HD? When Apple/Google contract on IOS search come up, I would bet that Apple will move to Bing as well. Apple already move China search to Baidu. I included the link to save you from asking :cool:).

You don't know much about the Sharp Elites, then. There is no 70" OLED TV, and the only mainstream competitor to Sharp's Elite is Samsung's new 9000 series at over $10,000. And the more expensive Samsung does not even contain a full array LED backlight like the Sharp Elites. Samsung's $10k+ display is still edge-lit.

With regard to competitive pricing, I was not talking about the Elite - that was an example of the exceptional quality Sharp can bring to the table. When you compare the Elite to its competition, it offers the best image quality compared to even more expensive displays. You are also comparing a real, existing product to something that is non-existent ("OLED TV to be released this quarter"). You probably do not own any of the TVs of which you speak, so really you have no idea.

I still have the last generation of Elite Pro series from Pioneer - an amazing set even by today's standards. :)
 
It probably won't affect Apple at all. I can imagine LG & Sharp are more desperate for cash infusions(Samsung isnt') so Apple will continue to get components at cut-rate prices.

But that is the problem that Samsung is facing. instead of consolidating there lead in the panel space, all of a sudden, there have two more viable competitors And they will have to market their newly available production capacity, most likely with lower profit margin..

Actually, you're not right ;)

and I was just abusing a popular internet Meme (or at least used to be popular). But apparently your use of "Plagerist" doesn't really show you know how to spell either (or you understand the concept of what plagiarism is.

No where in my post did I pass judgement on Apple / Samsung or the just / unjust nature on the split between Google services on iDevices. But thank you for reading what you wanted into it and showing your own colours. :rolleyes:

I just stated that Apple does have a history of changing directions and cutting ties with companies that they do not agree with. Sometimes for good (leaving PPC behind for x86) or bad (Dumping Google Maps for an unfinished Apple Maps, and a year left on their contract with google).

I am glad Apple Maps is starting to "rock". That doesn't excuse the fact that apple out of spite cut them off their device before their own solution was in fact ready for product release.

As for the whole "Google is evil cause they refused to give Apple turn by turn navigation". PLease do yourself a favour and investigate a little more behind why. Apple had never contracted google for such services. Google only maintained the contracted level of support and application development. Could they have gone above and beyond and provided the functionality as an act of good will? Absolutely. It would have been nice. But there was no obligation for it. If apple wished for Google Mapping with Turn by Turn Navigation, Apple was well within their power to attempt to negotiate with google to provide such services for appropriate Fees. Apple decided not to do this, and because of the entire Google V Apple fiasco, cut them off instead.

I am happy for you that your device is doing for you what you expect it to do. But before you start assuming someone else is a fanboy of anything, Maybe you should check to see what the persons perspective is. Considering i currently do not have a single Android based device and am not a particular fan of Android OS, those Apple coloured glasses of yours seem pretty dang apparent.

Can't admit you're wrong? Hey, I love Apple products too - but they made a mistake here with the LG retina displays and image retention...

Yep - you're right... I just made it up... There's only one article on it... and the severe image retention I had on my screen that lasted for quite a while and caused my screen to be eventually replaced by Apple with a Samsung screen was just a figment of my imagination...

What on earth are you talking about? Q3 2012 Samsung posted a gross profit of $7.4 billion for the period, despite want would appear to be a 75% reduction in displays supplied to Apple,and mostly fuelled by increased sales of smartphones. How can you possibly say that their mobile division doesn't earn that much money?

Real world? What do you know?

First, I work in engineering and I used to be a manufacturing engineer. I know, based on $$$ alone (if I didn't care about customer perception), that this is the approach that I would use.

Second, I actually suggested to Apple management (directly via email) that they do this very thing (i.e. set aside the Samsung displays for IR-related replacements).

Third, a few weeks later, the tech from my local Apple re-seller (not the Apple Store), told me that there used to be 2 Retina display replacement part numbers that they could order, but now there was only one. He also told me that he felt very optimistic that it was a Samsung display. Whattya know? It was.

We've had at least a dozen people on the ASC forum thread and the main Facebook page for this issue (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Apple...Macbook-Pros-with-LG-Displays/515441551804955) that have had the same experience. Every one of them has received part # 661-7171 and in every case it's been a Samsung panel.

Welcome to the real world.
