Why can't apple get things to market as fast as Samsung. it's wild. not like they don't have the money and not like they don't release very beta products at times

"A is copying B!"
"No, B is copying A!"

(Sigh.)

To paraphrase a lawyer who once defended Samsung, after they had flagrantly copied Apple's design patents: There's only so many ways that you can make a rectangular smartphone with rounded corners.

Samsung technically lost that court battle, by the way... but it's still worth pointing out that their defense cuts both directions.

Yes. Tech is much copycat. Some companies like Samsung copycat fast.
Making ultra thin phones is not a new thing and isn't new to Samsung either. So easily we forget the whole motor razr schtick was being as thin as a razor.

Lol, they copy and bring their products faster to market as Apple and once Apple is ready it already feels dated.
Yes I agree. They copycat fast and bring that copycatted device fast to market, after which apple leaves them in the dust. Anyway much of this is just opinions that won’t change any minds, means nothing.

I’m happy apple stays the course. Much of these “pokes” are like spit in the wind.

Even the title of the article agrees Samsung is copying.

Despite the good praise from the usual YouTube suspects, Samsung phones have never ever appealed to me. This does nothing to change that opinion.
Samsung lost it's appeal way back when they made the disabled the ability to unlock the bootloader. I like their hardware, but gawd, I can't deal with the bloatware. Their phones are pretty amazing once you remove all the bloat and add a firewall.

Maybe Apple follows Samsung? Because the Samsung Edge will be available before the rumored iPhone air. Apple hasn’t released or showed anything. How could Samsung copy Apple?
Nice try, referring to it as if it exists in the market! Neither phone is available. Samsung can easily copy Apple because anyone who haunts these forums (as you do) has seen the rumored iPhone "Air" or whatever designs for months now. Samsung is well aware of the same rumored slim iPhone we all are. That's how Samsung could copy Apple.

You do realize the entire design philosophy of Motor Razr was being as thin as a razor right? Phone manufactures have been making ultra thin phones long before iPhone "Air" was a thing. Same way there had been ultra thin windows laptops before the MacBook "Air". I will say Apple does tend to set design trends that some manufacturers follow but making thin phones is not new. Its a recycled design philosophy from years ago now that they have exhausted ideas on how to improve smartphone design.

This is Oppo R5 from 2014 only 4.9mm

Both huge phone makers now competing on lowering specs for "thinness..." How did we all get so lucky to live in such a world where the race to a signature, new product innovation becomes one about SUBTRACTION.
Isn’t that the same argument you can make against ultrabooks? More specs isn’t always better. Thin and light has its place.
And Apple isn't doing any copying (of Google Pixel) with the (rumored) iPhone Air's rear camera layout/design?

Seems more reminiscent of the Nexus 6p than anything.

Samsung, please make the third lowest camera not be in that spot because it interferes with magsafe accessories like magsafe wallets and batteries. put it closer to the top

If I saw more people calling for "thinner" before they started believing this is actually coming from Apple, I'd be a buyer of this stance. But I don't see it, haven't seen it, no thousands of posts griping that the last few iPhones are "too thick." In fact, I've seen what seems like thousands of posts looking for thicker to flush mount them cameras. And if it has to get thicker to do that, those same people usually ask to fill the space with more battery.

Do people want lighter? YES... but not at the cost of battery life. Ask about anyone who calls for lighter if they want less battery life to deliver it and their passion for lighter will quickly moderate if not reverse.

Else, if thinner & lighter is the absolute destination desired by many, kick the whole battery out and the cameras too. Put them in an add-on accessory (small-medium-large (battery)) and good-better-best (camera))... and then this crowd can buy the thinnest & lightest phone. Yes, it won't function without adding the case but they'll fully scratch the ultra-ultra thinnest & lightest itch.

I’m actually very excited about the thin iPhone… not because it’s going to be thin (don’t care about that at all) but because I assume it’s also going to be lighter. I have an iPhone 12 mini and I will never upgrade if it means carrying what feels like a brick in my pocket. This might finally be a good upgrade for me. The only thing I really care about with the mini is not the screen size or thickness… it’s the weight. It’s still a touch heavier than I’d like but it’s lighter than the alternatives.

Others have said it before me, but I still think this 'thin' iPhone is a precursor to making a foldable...

There has been quite a number of people here and elsewhere (albeit a minority) saying that the pro max is too heavy with a case, especially since the 11 PM. You can google “iPhone too heavy” and see the threads talking about this. The 14 PM for example was almost 20% heavier than the xs max. A lot of people are getting the pro maxes for the larger display, not necessarily the longer battery life.

I’ve personally went caseless with my 16 PM because I found it too hefty in my pocket compared to my xs max. I do like the longer battery life on the PM models but I don’t find it always necessary. I can live with a regular Pro’s battery life (with the occasional boost form an external power bank) if it means the phone can be lighter.
