I've had an M8 for a couple of years. It's fine, and a good alternative to the Studio Display. 5K would be nice, but it's not totally necessary unless you're really discerning. I didn't pay $700 for mine though - got it on a sale for $375. I could buy 3-4 of them for the price of a Studio Display, so for me it was worth it.

The OLED panel is probably nice, but at $1600 it's a bit too expensive. Once there are discounts on it, it probably won't be a bad deal.

What are the reasons a person would buy a "smart monitor"? I'm honestly trying to find out who and why they would need such a product, compared to a regular monitor of course. This is the first I'm hearing of these things.
The M7, at least, seems aimed at people who want a cheap small 4K TV* and a cheap but ok 4K display for their laptop or computer, but only have space and/or budget for one. This is the M70F, which replaces the M70D, which is already just $300, so I'm betting those Ds will be closeout-priced soon. Curiously, the marketing stuff for the M70F claims it's got built-in support for Office365 without a computer, which probably just means the SoC has enough RAM to run the web app in the built-in browser without crashing, and it's bookmarked. They're also really pushing their "AI" features for finding TV shows to watch, which might be enticing for people who neither have nor want an extra box like the Apple TV. A big question, of course, is whether the software is going to stay out of the way and switch over to the laptop input when you connect and turn on, or whether you're going to have to manually click over every time, and possibly have to deal with ads.

*no antenna support, but most people don't use OTA anymore. Really.

Ugh. Yea, but wasn't there supposed to be a 32" one? Maybe it wasn't from Samsung...
Those are Retina 6K (and not Samsung), not 5K, although Acer has a 32" 5K 165Hz gaming unit on the way, supposedly due Q4 this year.

However, Samsung does have a 27" QD-OLED 5K 120Hz prototype they’ve been showing behind closed doors.

Was looking into these as some of them are super cheap for a 32" display but seems like everyone here dislikes them.

As a software developer I would never connect these to Wifi & turn off all "smart" features immediately, pretty sure these would be super easy to hack into... and then you can see everything on my screen, no thanks.

But the price, size, and 4K is good. Why do people not like them? Image quality?

only update samsung need to be worthwhile is drop the smart and make it 5k, the rest is pointless marketing. It's a shame as a 32" from Apple at a reasonable price doesn't seem likely soon, they are missing an opportunity
It being a smart monitor is how they can get the prices so low

I've had an M8 for awhile, and it's a fine monitor. Find one on sale, and give it a try. I haven't had any issues with mine, and for development it works really nicely. I have mine connected to a Mac Studio.

As for the smart features, I connected mine long enough to register it and update it, and I haven't used the smart features since. It's just a monitor. My wife didn't connect hers to the internet at all.

Have had the "current" Apple branded monitors since I started using their products in 1990. Currently have two Studio Displays attached to my M1 Ultra Mac Studio and one with anti-glare glass for my M4 Pro Mac mini in my office the mountains. No regrets. They work well for me. No compatibility issues.

The lact one was acquired during a "$300 off" promotion on Amazon which paid for the nano glass option.
