The phone industry is official bored. Absolutely scrapping the bottom of the barrel with these ideas. Any long time macrumors readers remember that iPhone prototype apple was toying with almost ten years ago that was shaped like a wedge? The chin of the phone was super slim and it got fatter up at the earpiece? I always thought that idea was super cool.

Android fanboys will should about how Apple copied Samsung when the iPhone is announced in a couple months, as if that phone hasn't been in development for a year plus. They'll act like a phone can be developed, tested, and put into production in less than 5 months.
I always believe that phone manufacturers need months or years to design and develop a new generation of phones. However, I found that companies like Samsung and Vivo/Oppo/OnePlus could easily and rapidly make something that Apple announced or just rumoured to make. I wonder how they achieve that.

The worldwide collective sigh begins now; you can just hear the sighs and expletives as people pull their skinny phones out of their skinny jeans only to see that whilst they've been sitting at Starbucks enjoying their coffee, their phone's have adopted the curvature of their thigh muscles.

Which is actually how a phone always was designed:

Surely there's a Samsung rumors site somewhere, populated by people who weren't going to buy one of these anyway, nevertheless complaining about camera bumps (so ugly omg!) and the phone wobbling when it's on a desk (so unusable omg!) and battery life, and bending and other things. Like a parallel universe.

Even though I just got my iPhone 16 Plus, I find myself increasingly beguiled by the encroaching Slim era, and I wholeheartedly believe I could end up buying the iPhone 17 Slim.

This year they made the Ultra model more generic by robbing it of its sharp corner character and now they’ve just released a Z Flip without the hinge and called it a new phone.

They could have really taken Apple to town and resurrected the Galaxy S8 aesthetic instead.

This is the phone for people who are not addicted to their phone. Smaller battery will get you through the day without any problems if you screen time is reasonable. Modern iPhones are too heavy and bulky and device portability matters.

Both Samsung and Apple do this overmarketing thing. And both make pretty lousy phone for the kind of money they charge. The cool phone brands don't seem to make it to the US.

As I understand it, both this Samsung phone and any thinner iPhones will adopt the new silicon lithium battery technology that the latest Chinese phones have been equipped with. The decision may have been to adopt smaller but more efficient batteries.
Some of us might have preferred present dimensions, larger silicon batteries and perhaps a 3 day gap between charges.
