I have a 2.0GB sandisk jump drive and when I delete items from it, I do not see any space free up on the drive. I cannot see the item on the drive anymore but Finder still shows the same amount of free space on the drive.

Why is this? Is there anything I can do to get it to show up correctly?

BTW, I can add some small items in the little free space it has and they show up and the amount of free space gets smaller when I put them on there but when I delete the same item, it vanishes but the free space does not come back.

That worked!! Why is the trash on the computer tied to the flash drive? That is so weird. I now have a lot more free space. Thanks.

Every volume has "trash", but it exists on the volume itself. If you send a file to trash on an external, the trash icon on the screen shows something in the trash, but if you eject the drive, the trash icon now shows nothing in trash. The info relative to trash stays on the drive itself.
