@ weenerdog: I have seen somewhere Intel would rename some of the better C2D chips to iX series. As such, we might get a chip that, while named iX, is in fact a C2D processor.

Doubt that. 32nm parts are cheaper to manufacture and provide better performance so it would be idiotic to rename ancient chips that are inferior. Intel's naming system is already so confusing that throwing C2Ds to the iX mix would make it ridiculous.

Well, that would suck now wouldn't it!

Let's be honest they'll probably do that.

Maybe the next Macbooks will be based on ARM CPUs with an iOS X operating system :p

Seriously, you never know. Apple has their own thing going now printing money with iphones, ipads, ipod touches.... With the initial exception of core duos, they've been behind in adopting the pc industry standards for whatever reason, yet by no means behind in sales. Can't walk around a college campus without seeing the apple logo on the back of somebody's laptop.
ARM isn't x86...

that was speculated before Nehalem came out, they didn't and it wont happen

Intel won't rebrand C2D into core iX.

There are C2Q that are EOL and they aren't rebranded as core iX. So why would these C2D be rebranded as core iX?

The ix series are only Nahalem, Westmere or Sandy Bridge.
