I can see why you'd want to, but although SAS and SATA use the same physical connections, the MBP doesn't have a SAS controller, so it would be useless.

It'd be loud and hot and you'd do better with a 256GB SSD
 
I wasn't actually going to buy it, just had one lying around. Can I use it with a external closure and use it as a back up drive?
 
Suitable for a MacBook? I doubt that.

You'd need a dedicated controller with external SAS connectors for that type of enclosures. Such controllers are PCIe based, hence not compatible with a notebook whatsoever.

That's the problem, can't just get a USB/eSATA-type enclosure for SAS, maybe a PC with a SAS card running as a Linux server would do it...

How do people get these things just "lying around"?!
