I took the SATs last year, the last year for the "old" SATs. I ended up with 670 on verbal and 680 on the math section for a total of 1350. I think they are a joke anyway, but the new ones with the required essay seem really dumb. How is it possibly to objectively grade thousands of essays other than taking points off for spelling and grammar errors? It just seems rather skewed to me.

I got a 2000, the equivalent of a 1330, on my SAT I.

Math: 710
Critical Reading: 630
Writing: 660
Essay: 8 of 12 (a 4 of 6 and a 5 of 6, added together)

For my SAT II Subject Tests:

Writing: 670
US History: 700
Math Level II: 800

Not that bad, I guess. I was ecstatic when I found out my SAT II's. I was in NY last June for an orientation for a summer program I was going on, and my early June scores came out that day, so I called my parents and they checked online while talking to me and my mom flipped when she saw the 800. I was hoping for around 700, so it came as a huge surprise for me. Apparently, though, lots of people do really well on this test (Math Level II). Can anybody confirm that?

Oh yes. Kaplan is the market leader for prep classes...$400 for the online only, all the way up to $3400 for their premium, 32-hour tutoring package. It's disgusting...I can't believe people actually do that.

I knew several folks who got together for weeks studying and preparing for taking the SAT. Even among nerds and geeks, cream rises...and bricks sink.

I just didn't take them that seriously.

I went to a place called One-to-One tutoring once or twice a week, just because most of the questions on the SAT (especially math-wise) were topics that I had studied at least two years before and not practiced since then. I was also the first group (guinea pigs, IMO) to take the SAT with the writing section and 25 minute essay, so lots of my time was spent on 25 minute (so small, for the CAHSEE it was 50, I think. Even most AP essays are longer:() timed essay prep.

IMO, it helped. Taking practice exams works the best, and then going over how to do the problems that you got wrong. "10 Real SAT's" by the College Board (they write the SAT and do that stuff) is the best book I found.

Agreed completely.

SATs are the biggest ******** ever...though I didn't have much of a choice about taking them. Took the latest rendition of the SAT about a year ago (I think?) and had 740v, 730w, 660m.

Once you realize that the college experience will be basically the same anywhere you go, none of it really matters any more.

SATs don't mean anything at all. Honestly, they're a huge waste of time. If only they weren't required by every college I applied to. :p

I also agree completely.

I did not take the SAT but i did take the ACT. I got a 25 on my ACT the first time i took it. If they removed the language sections i would do A LOT better. Its not that i am bad at the reading and writing part of the ACT it just that i dont do as well in them as the science and math. :p

damn straight, they're so utterly pointless.

i shouldn't be complaining, it will actually help my admissions prospects.. i only have a 3, maybe 3.1 or 3.2 GPA weighted, so i can use the help...

that being said, i'm still happy i scored what i did. i go to a fairly highly regarded private school (which IMO it shouldn't be) at which most of the people buy their way in, rather that getting in on academic merit, so my 1440 without studying looks pretty good compared to the parents who buy their children $3000 prep courses and they still get like 1000s...

honestly though, standardized tests are stupid in general. to be honest, my SAT scores misrepresent me. I have practically no work ethic, I probably could have a 4.0 GPA weighted if I tried hard enough, and the SATs pass me off as something I'm not. I wouldn't say I'm unhappy with it, because it actually helps me, but honestly it makes me look better than I am.

The SATs are a joke. I got a 1050 on them and had a 3.7 GPA. And with most colleges now accepting ACT scores, I always recommend people to take the ACT. You can take as many times as you please, and in the end only send in one score. Plus to me the ACT was much easier than the SAT. I never studied for either seeing as it just seemed like a waste of time and the college I planned to go to accepted low SAT scores so I didnt care. I would suggest not studying as there is not real way to prepare for the SAT.

Haha...some people where I go would take that as an offense. People pay upwards of 2 grand for small group tutoring, and $700 and up for classroom work with a tutor...not to mention the stacks of books. My personal favorite "10 REAL SATs"...that thing is a brick. :p People suck.

I, on the other hand, preferred to stay up until 4 am playing Call of Duty online and watching Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (gotta love it), and get up exactly 2 minutes before the exam started. :D

hell yeah. i woke up 15 minutes before it started, and i'm about a 10 minute drive away. it worked out perfectly. ^_^

I hate that they changed how the scoring works... that said, I believe my original score of 1440 (740 math, 700 verbal) would extrapolate to a 2160 on the new test.

I took the pre-SAT in 6th grade. They removed the difficult math and condensed the test (but still included bits of every section on the real test), so that the final test was worth 1020... or was it 1040? Anyway, I got a 980, which would work out to a 1510 on the old test. :D

how do you get the essay result. i was only able to find out my critical reading, math and writing score online

Just got my scores yesterday morning.
800 Critical Reading
750 Writing
730 Math.
Needless to say, that turned out to be a pretty good day.

Being from MN also, I took the ACT a while ago (99?). Mine was 29 (32/36 Math, 25/36 Reading)... But from what I've heard this score isn't that good anymore... But it's like I need it now...

If you go to the page that lists all the scores you have accumulated, there is a link called "View My Score Report & Essay". Go there and you'll get a detailed report on each section of the test. Click the "Writing" tab and you can look at your essay score.

You can read your essay online as well. I got an 11 out of 12 on the essay, and needless to say, my essay was probably the worst thing I've written in 4 years. Seriously...it's the dumbest most asinine piece of garbage ever. Shows what they know.

I forgot my pencil that day so I got:

Math - 0
Reading - 0
Writing - 26 (I finally bummed a pencil five minutes before the test was over)

Seriously though, I didn't have to even take them. They accepted me into college before the test was given. But college was worse than watching paint dry. Way worse. At least with drying paint you can see the shades change as it dries.

My sister took them many times and got 1530/1600 every time. She was #1 in her class and now goes to Tufts.

She took a prep class and got the same grade.

This senior in my school got a perfect score on the SATs and got REJECTED from MIT, not even weightlisted. She even applied early decision.

I took the SAT about 6 years ago when there was no writing section.

Math - 690
Verbal - 640
1330 total, funny how a bunch of others got 1330 exactly also.
