Is the sata port in the mbp a 150 or a 300 speed? I know the HD they put in it are 150, but if I put a 300 in..would it be able to operate at 300 speed? Thanks.

AFAIK, the SATA chipset in the MBP is only SATA 1, or SATA 150 as you put it. It doesn't really matter, there isn't much of a difference between the different speeds other than the support of newer features.

I updated my 2006 MPB with this drive in July:

    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

Running smooth, cool and lots of space for bootcamp... I know it's not a great measure of perf, but the Vista WEI scored it a 5.9 (the top).

And now its only $139 with a rebate...

My advice would be to get a cheap disk enclosure for the other drive in for spare data...
