Was the SATA 3 issue every fixed on the 17" MacBook pro?

There was an EFI update that seemed to help, but there are still frequent forum posts from users with SATA III problems. I read something on the OCZ forums that a user determined Apple underpowered the SATA chipset to save on battery life and this is the root of all the SATA III problem and also likely the reason Apple only uses a SATA II SSD as OEM.

That said, there are many users here with a trouble free SATA III experience, but for the best compatibility you might be better off going with a SATA II SSD and just accept the somewhat slower speeds.
