Actually I was going to say it's not. Some people hate it, such as myself. :)
Expand Your tastebuds. Hater. Matcha is awesome.

So I looked it up. Apparently it can have different tastes based where it is grown, how it is processed, and how it is prepared. In general, Japanese's Matcha tastes like bitter grass while American Matcha tastes like buttered egg yoke. Why don't you just agree that you are both right.

That seems like quite a variation in flavor profile, but who am I to question Bing?

Not bad. Wish it was a little bigger to support an iPhone- but I can see something like this damaging ports easily- people would use them while not on a table.

Well same with coffee. Doesn’t mean people have coffee black but some people do(Black to me is gross). Ice green tea lattes are delicious but they are sweetened just like coffee ;)

But why?

Do they expect people to leave this thing plugged in all the time? If not, then wouldn't simple a 3-inch USB-C to Lightning cable be smaller, cheaper, and more efficient?

the critical part isn’t just 1 less cable to carry as you stated isn’t a big deal, yet the charging efficiency. Even if this connector delivers more power the AirPods may not charge faster via Qi wireless?

So you think this is easier than connecting a normal or mini sized cable? And this will be slower than direct charging too.. it's just a product in search of a problem.
On top of that you hardly need to charge the cases, personally I'm lucky to do it once a fortnight and I use mine everyday

Well I definitely still will pack a USBC to Lightning cable in my travel bag because like you and others have said it’s faster/more efficient.

Mainly I ordered because I am curious to see how this plays with the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard case. That extra USB-C can be used to charge the iPP, so perhaps the opposite will be true, and if so, that port would make for an excellent option to charge AirPods or Apple Watch while the iPad’s port can be used for another hub. It may prove to be a sleeker cordless alternative in that case.

Too bad for proprietary chargers. If the Apple Watch worked with a regular Qi charger, this thing would be a lot more useful.

The Apple Watch battery lasts 18-20 hours. You don’t need a portable charger.

I understand that viewpoint for most users. However, I sleep with my Apple Watch using the Pillow app to track my sleep. In the mornings while getting ready, I charge my watch to 'top it off' for the day. So far, this has worked great, I never run out of juice. Every once in a while, I'll forget to top off, or a business trip/something throws the timing off. So for people like myself, a portable solution would be nice to top off when necessary. That being said, I'm not a fan of this particular dongle anyway. My original quote was a wish for a single and small charging pad that could charge both an apple watch and airpods (one at a time). But that's on Apple and why their charging mat became vaporware.

Since the next watchOS is rumored to have first party Apple sleep tracking capabilities, unless the next watch hardware is a leap of an improvement for battery life, a lot more people are going to need to charge more often.

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn 't stop to think if they should.

A message that should have been on the wall in Jony’s ios7 skunkworks team room back in 2012-2013.

But wireless charging is so much COOLER!!!! Never mind the fact it is slower and super inefficient.
Let's use mains power to charge the laptop battery. Then unplug the laptop and plug in this charger which wirelessly charges the case's battery which then wirelessly charges the Airpods. That's three transfers to a battery plus two inefficient wireless transfers.

Sure, but this way is SO CUTE!

Actually, the case charges the iPods via direct electrical contacts in the bottom of the wells the earphones fit into. So knock one off most of the numbers you list. But, yeah, it's not a particularly efficient system.

couldn't they just make a small male USB-c to male lightning plug?

this one one side and USB-C on the other.

I feel dumber after having seen this.

However, I am glad that nobody else here seems to have been able to come up with any upsides that I couldn't think of.

What about my idea of using it attached to the extra port on the iPad Pro Magic Keyboard case? A cord would be floppy and not work when picking up the tablet, whereas this would remain flat and rigid, allowing the tablet to be moved without issue.

Sorry, no matter how hard I try I can't think of any scenario where I'd rather do that than something else.

I already have stationary wireless chargers in all the places I tend to need to charge my phone or AirPods case, and on the go I always have a power bank and/or charger and a short lightning cable with me.

I see no advantage at all since I would always unplug the charger from the keyboard case before packing it anyhow, and it would never be stationary long enough for multiple charges of the AirPods case where the AirPods case would have to be removed from the charger and used between charges. The effort and time of connecting the wireless charger to the keyboard case is the same as connecting the AirPods case just once to a wall charger or power bank.

If this really was a requirement I had I would prefer to spend the $30 on a wireless power bank, and carry that instead of the Satechi thing.

Of course, everyone has different workflows, preferences for cable management and sense of aesthetics.

If this is a product that serves a purpose for you, that's great, and I would like to hear how it works out.

To me it still looks incredibly dumb. 😀
