As others have stated, this might be a little too task specific for a device designed to be mobile. I suppose if you really needed a portable iPad Pro for various office locations this would be very useful.

At least it folds up for mobil use, but it looks pretty hefty compared to simple truly portable docks. Though pass through power on those usually adds a power brick. Does this one have a brick too?

I'd say take a look at the Twelve South's StayGo USB-C hub if you can provide our own iPad stand.

What I like about the Satechi:

1. Its cheaper and more portable than the $399.00 Kensington iPad Docking Station (even better I got a discount code from Satechi via an e-mail)

2. I really like the 'L" shaped power cable connection to the side of the iPad Pro.

3. It folds into a compact shape for storage or transport.

Like the look and design of Twelve South's StayGo, but no 3.5mm jack and 4K@30hz instead of 60hz.

It's been a while since they launched this, maybe it's due for an update.

AngerDanger was being funny. Neither the current MacBook Air or Pro have HDMI, USBA, SD, micro SD, a touchscreen or support for Apple Pencil.
I was hoping that. Have to admit I don’t follow the releases like I use to.

This might work for some, but if you really need this functionality I bet you probably already have an iPad Magic Keyboard. If I really needed the inputs I would buy a hub that ”hangs” off the iPad rather than an entire stand. I really wish the charging port on the Magic Keyboard allowed data transfers. It’s perfect for a hub connection.
I would get a M1 MBA in that scenario. Granted, I purchased a Magic Keyboard for my iPad Pro, which was my primary device for 6 - 8 months. However, If I could do things differently, I wouldn't have tried to turn the iPad into a laptop and spend as much on that as the price of a mid tier M1 MBA.

Most people don’t need any ports. Some need one, and a small minority need multiple.
Come on now. This is an iPad "Pro". I own two of them but as a photographer, I need multiple extra dongles to accomplish anything in that workflow. This is not a narrow use case. To suggest otherwise doesn't acknowledge the huge aftermarket of devices filling this void.

Hardware - A lot of work and effort is being done to make the iPad Pro a laptop or desktop computer.

Operating System/Environment and Software - zilch.

As they say, "Bumblebee’s shouldn’t be able to fly" But, for me the iPad with MK does make it "fly" like a laptop for me :)

It is true, if you really need a laptop then of course buy one. I agree the OS and available software make it a workhorse for many people. I just hope the M1 iPad will narrow the gap between the versatility of the MacBook and the iPad, if the appropriate iOS/software updates happen.

I've been enamored with the first iPad, and now the 2021 iPP 12.9". So, the MK, that gives a laptop quality to the iPad is something that keeps me happy. Granted it is a heavy beast when compared with a MacBook Air

WWDC announcements about new MacBooks may push me to buy one. But I have to see what is actually offered. I've got to say the 2021 iPP 12.9" screen has spoiled me. I hope there are screen improvements on new MacBooks

What mystifies me is why can't a MacBook have onboard cellular service like the iPad cellular model? The would be something else I'd love to see for the future MacBooks.

In the end, "To each his own". It is nice to have choices!
