Satellite messaging question

I might be looking forward to this feature, but I have one question.

Once place I am frequently has almost no signal. It shows 1 bar, but I can't send texts in either iMessage or SMS. There is that little signal.

But I have also read that sat messaging won't work in airplane mode.

So any idea if it will work if the phone "thinks" I have signal but in reality I don't have enough to send a message?

Doesn’t appear so. I put my 15P in Airplane mode and the satellite option didn’t show. From my limited experience with it, I believe the SOS icon must be present for it to work.
