What's with Preview? While experimenting with a .png file, I closed Preview, thinking the .png would be unchanged since I didn't save it, but to my surprise, all of my doodling and experimenting was saved on top of the original file without asking! Why does Preview save changes without asking?

    1) To take up more disk space.
    2) To give you the option of holding down the alt key, sorry I've a Dell kybd, to convert the "duplicate" option in the File menu so as to let you do what you wanted to do in the first place.
    3) To give you the option of using the "Revert to" option in the File menu to revert to the version before you scribbled all over it.

    -Complexity for complexity's sake.

Thanks, Partron22. I'm new to the Mac environment, so it's taking me a bit to get used to some of the changes.

There are certain things about Preview that take some getting used to. Preview is the main reason I continue to use the Mac platform for work. Using preview to edit Pdf's, save, combine, cut and paste, is a great time saver for me. Using it is very easy as well, but there are a few things you need to watch for. What you mentioned was one of the things that surprised me.

And it's free and part of the OS. Can't say that about Adobe Acrobat.

Yup. Totally agree. There's a learning curve, but it's worth it.

How do you combine PDFs in Preview?
