MBP 13" OS X 10.6.8 (brand new) (w/ latest upgrade recommended by Apple)

I really want to upgrade to 10.7.1, but I think I read somewhere to 'back-up' my 10.6.8 before I do so.

would someone pls explain a little bit about the Why's and How's of that advice.

I do not have an external HD to back-up on.

~thx for help guys, I just don't know a lot about computers.:)

You will need an external HD to use Time Machine for backup. You wouldn't want to backup to the same drive as the source anyway.

It's definitely a good idea to make a backup before doing any upgrade. With Time Machine, you can just manually run one and just note the time of the backup so you know which backup will give you the previous version of OS-X.

I would highly recommend having a Time Machine drive available for regular backups. It can be connected directly, or you can set one up on a network (or, purchase a Time Capsule, which has an integrated drive available for wireless backup).

thx. I understand what u r saying.

umm, one other thing if u don't mind.

Clean Install. again with the What & Why of that.
