I saved my 6.1 blob using tiny umbrella but had to do it about 3 times before it actually saved, anyone know why?

i get an error from tinyumbrella saying
Cannot Start TSS Service
DO NOT TRY RESTORING YOUR DEVICE!!
TinyUmrella MUST be run as an administrator

then i click ok i see message "Tinyumrella's TSS server is NOT running"
still i click Save SHSH and the log file says

TinyUmbrella[INFO|AWT-EventQueue-0|4:00:45]: Trying to enable TSS...
TinyUmbrella[INFO|AWT-EventQueue-0|4:00:51]: TSS is unavailable due system hosts file being read-only or otherwise uneditable.
TinyUmbrella[INFO|AWT-EventQueue-0|4:00:51]: TSS is not available. Starting TSSChecker thread
TinyUmbrella[INFO|TSSChecker|4:00:51]: TSS is unavailable due system hosts file being read-only or otherwise uneditable.

EDIT: ok so this time i disabled Kaspersky and did not get any new popup message "run as administrator", clicked save SHSH got this in log file
02/01/2013 16:12:01.527 Finished saving SHSHs for [P’s iPhone]

Noobiest of all

I am trying to restore and update, but itunes warn me that I still have apps that I purchased that have not been saved and that I will loose them if I restore. I go to itunes, then to the apps tab and click sync but it seems that not all apps are saved because when I try again to restore, the warning about loosing purchased apps comes again. How should I save my apps to itunes?
Sorry for my noob question. Probably too noob for this forum...

Edit: I just found the App store and downloaded all apps. Don't know where they are saved. Apple doesn't want you to know all that info. There must be a folder in my computer or maybe it is their icloud. Who knows. Apple mysteries.

Do I need to download my device specific IPSW? Some articles I have read did not mention it, so I'm just looking for some clarification.

Quick question, I tried restoring on iTunes to 6.1, but it wasnt working. So I had to OTA and THEN restored and updated to 6.1, then saved my blobs... I'll be okay, right?

I was trying to save my blobs with TU and got these 2 Warning messages that look very scary. In any case, I was brave and unchecked Request shsh from cydia. Then I saved the shsh. Did I just destroyed my iphone 5?

Just in case, I am now downloading the ipsw for my phone and somehow I'll try to save the shsh using the other method with Redsnow (I suppose I will have to search for this program on the web). Is it a good idea to do this both ways, with TU and Redsnow?
Thank you.

First "error" is a warning, not sure about the second one. Tiny Umbrella hasn't been working for me recently, try using Redsn0w.

So, using Redsn0w I ended up with a file called 2684002610511_iPhone5,1_6.1_10B143.shsh that is only 20 KB and a folder called Resources with a file called Cydia.tar.lzma of 3603 KB. Is that all?
I actually used the ipsw file for the iphone 5 GSM for AT&T even though my iphone 5 is a factory unlocked one, not one from AT&T. Was that ok too?
Thank you

All you need is the .shsh. Save it somewhere where it will be safe, maybe even on google drive. Then later you can restore it with Redsn0w as long as you have that blob, and the ipsw which you can find a download for SOMEWHERE.

In TU you dont need to have selected "Request SHSH from Cydia" correct?
Just select both "Save ALL Available SHSH" and "When connecting a device, prefer my custom device name over the name set on the device"?

I saved blobs for my devices after this thread was first posted but I do have a question, TinyUmbrella says, in the log tab, 4 shsh files found. Redsnow says 5 shsh blob files found. Additionally, the shsh file saved by TU is 4KB while the file saved by redsnow is 20kb

Can anyone explain the difference

Also, redsnow can't submit the blobs for my ipad to cydia. It worked fine for my 4S though

Yes. You just need to save all SHSH.

Request SHSH from cydia is if you already submitted it before and Apple is no longer signing it.

Say I got an SHSH for 5.0 when they were signing it. That means it's now also on Cydia's servers. Later if Apple was only signing 5.1 but my device was on 5.0, it would get the 5.0 blobs too since they are stored on Cydia.

It was a good idea to update to 6.1. They made the site after 6.1 was released in GM form to the public. I'm sure they made sure the exploits still worked before they made all this publicity happen.

Never submitted anything to cydia before. I still dont get that signing stuff, and the reason for having to do this. Any quick read links, a good detailed one?

I have a quick question that maybe someone could enlighten me on. I have an iPad 3 jailbroke 5.1.1 untethered with Redsn0w back when it first came out. I have all the blobs saved up to 6.1. I was thinking of upgrading it to 6.1 to do the jailbreak but I am concerned that once the 6.1 firmware gets patched in the next week or so and apple quits signing it, will it be possible to restore to 6.1 if something were to crash it to where I have to restore. I know that the same senereo happened back on 5.1.1 until redsn0w was updated to be able to re-restore to the same fw. If this might be the case I might be safer staying where I'm at and not have the potential of loosing the jailbreak. Thanks for any reply

- shsh blobs all backed up.

- backed up all my contacts/files/etc.

- did a clean restore in iTunes, iPhone5 is now on 6.1

- pushed my local backup back onto the iPhone.

- All ready for Superbowl weekend, bring on the jailbreak!!!:apple:

Thank you.

Make sure you have the latest version 6.1.02a of TU. If you still get those messages:

1st message: In the advanced tab uncheck: Set host to Cydia on exit.
Restart PC after this.

2nd message: kill your Anti-virus and try again.

@Dwalls90 TU works fine, just need the last version

Correct, at the moment(!) there is no downgrade possibility, so if things go sour and you have to restore it means restoring to whatever Apple ios signing at that moment. That might by 6.1 or 6.1.x with no JB.

That being said, forced restores are rare, most problems can be solved by booting into save mode and removing bad packages in Cydia

Hello i have an iphone 5 with ios 6.0.2. and am trying to save the blobs of that version but when i used tinyumbrella only save me shsh 6.1, when I still does not update to 6.1.

Does it happend because Apple doesnt have 6.0.2. on his servers ?
