Newbie to the mac here..

1) How do you save to a specific folder? Often, I'll find a pic or a file that i want to go into a specific folder, and for some reason I'm only able to save it in the root directory. It doesn't give me the option to expand the folder to reveal the subfolders I've buried deep within..Is there a way to navigate to the subfolder I want to save something? Up to this point, i'm left with dragging and dropping..

I'm using a macbook, 2 gig, 1.25 gig ram, and am using either safari or firefox to save these files..

Are you using Safari? Hold down the option key when right/ctrl-clicking to get "Save image as..." instead of the usual "Save Image" or whatever it's called in Safari... :)

Edit: Oh, and click the triangle in the save dialogue to get the full file browser, just like Chundles will say. ;)

The save dialogue box gives you simple save options when it opens. Most of the time, next to the box with the file name in it is a button with a triangle on it, click this and more advanced (including specific folder navigation) options are shown.

See here, next to the box with "testing.doc" in it, the little triangle pointing down:

thx for that.. one more question though.. i've got my mouse set up for the "double tap " feature, and it only gives me the option to save something to a predetermined folder.. this is using safari by the way.. what i'd really like to know is how can i double tap and have it just ask me where i'd like to navigate to.. any ideas on that? Firefox works fine by the way..

hmm.. looks like this might just be a limitation with safari.. firefox is doing what I want in that respect.. thx for the help anyway.

I tried holding down the option key, nothing happened.

i'm not using a mouse by the way, so there is no "right clicking" for me...

i just hooked up a mouse, so I see what you're saying now... but if I have to go through that process to save something to a specific folder then it loses it's appeal of a shortcut for me.. I'm trying to just use the mouse pad only..

anyway thx for the help.

ahh! ok.. thx dude. didn't know that..

I really like this double tap feature for the most part though..

I know this is an old thread, but I figured it would be better than starting a new one. Thanks for the info Chundles, I was pulling my hair out! :D
