generally speaking apple has done a good job of having units in store to swap out phones with issues. That may not hold true for the X but at this point we have no way to actually know.

No matter how constrained, replacements for faulty devices are normally fulfilled in 1-3 business days.

It will definitely not be walk in Apple Store walk out with a new phone. It will be similar to the jet black last year for the first couple weeks... 1-2 day turnaround and you’ll have a new phone...

Of course this is all guesswork going by other “constrained” launches... this one could be worse who knows ... or maybe not so bad, but doubtful

They tend to keep a fair amount of stock once a new phone comes out, mostly in skinny white boxes made specifically for warranty repairs. I would not worry. This is just a phone, not a Mona Lisa.
