Apple has started making a scaled down "Apple TV+" app available on select 2016 and 2017 LG smart TVs. The app is appearing on LG's content store in several regions including Germany, Poland, and the Nordic countries, and its existence is confirmed in an LG support document.

First spotted by FlatpanelsHD, the app interface looks very similar to the standard Apple TV app, but it only allows owners of the older webOS-based TVs to watch TV+ content. The iTunes Store and Watch Now tabs have been removed from the top navigation menu, leaving just three options there: Apple TV+, Search, and Settings.

The fully fledged Apple TV app, which is available on select Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs, allows users to stream TV shows and movies from Apple TV+, access à-la-carte Apple TV Channels and their iTunes libraries, as well as buy or rent more than 100,000 shows and movies from the iTunes Store. The same services can also be accessed on select Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices.

F**king finally! Confirmed in Denmark too. LG OLED 55B7 from 2017

Edit: Just installed it, The UI is pretty slow/laggy compared to Netflix and other apps on the TV. But still happy that it saves me the hassle/money of getting an apple tv.

I have a 2017 LG OLED so if this is true it’s a good thing, however I gave up waiting and bought an AppleTV 4K 2nd gen when it launched earlier this year. I wonder if the app supports Dolby Vision? The TV does.

Might be handy to have installed if I leave the Apple TV remote in the drawer and can’t be bothered to walk a few feet to fetch it 😂

The app supports Dolby Vision on my LG 55UH950V.

I have a 2017 LG OLED, a flagship model for the brand. They have added Peacock recently but AppleTV+ has yet to appear. I would love to go directly to the app instead of switching to my AppleTV box.

Was available for my series 6 2017 4K curve tv yesterday. Was surprised it was available. Only negative part is that you can’t access your purchased movies, etc.
I’ll need to have a look when I’m home, thanks!

This is surprising to see and very cool. However it really is a much better experience to use a media box. Especially on the older TVs. You spent the money on the TV. Do yourself a big favor and grab an ATV. It truly is the best all in one media box. And yes if you have your own….” Private collection “ of videos, you can use Plex on ATV. ;)

It seems like it's not currently available in Italy, let's hope they made it available here soon

Hahahahaha. When my mom moved in 2017, we got 2 new TVs:

- $2500 Sony 65”
- $400 LG 42”

The LG’s network capabilities broke completely after a year, and the Sony TV is apparently never getting Apple TV+.

This is why Smart TVs suck.
